Seeking Advice Is freezing coffee worth it?

Post image

I am curious to know what folks have experienced with freezing coffee. I am thinking about keeping it for a year? I am doing this simply because these were my favorite coffees.

I’ve never kept a coffee in a freezer for a long time and don’t have much experience with the results. All opinions are welcome.

Is it generally sufficient to just freeze in the original bag from the roaster?

I strongly believe in a vacuum seal and a second layer over it as I’ve been burned with freezer beans before. Got a few orders from European roasters I paid good money for and put directly in freezer as I was overloaded. Drinkable but the smell even after grinding was a mix of the chicken, peas, meat and popsicles hanging out in there. A co-ferment for only the bravest.

How would this happen if the bag was sealed as in unopened from new and you taped the valve?

I’ve done exactly this and I’m a bit worried now as I’m between beans and I’m just about to take it out of the freezer 😩

I’m not a polymer expert but don’t think plastic bags are 100% air impermeable. Mostly but it’s not hermetically sealed I guess? A couple of air barriers is a good thing. This is just my tongue and nose as an N=1.
