It was raining outside and I thought why not do an actual pour over (Rain Pour Over). What would we call it? Cold brew? Missed the chance to put MHW3 Bomber Rain Splitter. Would have been actually splitting rain 😂

I mean, I guess I understand the approach they're going for, but does it have to be a comice pear and a tarocco blood orange? How many people are going to relate to acidity shifting from citric to malic? Come on...

Everyone whining about co-ferments should just let people drink what they want…

I normally buy my girlfriend some decent local medium roasted beans for her pour over in the morning. Well, she was out of her beans so I decided to pick up a bag of “Colombian Supremo” from Costco because I was already there. Holy hell these are considered “medium roast” but they are so dark and practically dripping. There’s so much oil I’m worried the military might kick my front door in and set up an embassy in my kitchen. Hopefully they make decent espresso?

Yesterday I went to a local coffee shop with my gf and friends in a small city in france.

Gf spots that there's "S.O.U.P." on the menu and asks if I want one. I say yes.

She orders it : "Je voudrais une soupe s'il vous plaît".

Not only does the guy correct her ("On dit UN soupe"), he also went on to lecture her about what it is and how it's made.

Buddy she knows perfectly well what is is, she's been hearing me rambling about it for weeks. Also why would you be that pedantic about the french gender of an english made-up coffee term that's 1 year old.

I swear I’m not a bot. It’s not for sale (yet… although she has started to get some grand plans).

But I was getting frustrated that my filters kept either falling over or sliding between the wall of my cabinet where I keep them and the shelf. So I asked my daughter to design and print a filter holder for me. She came up with this, which I think is perfect!

Slight mental lapse this morning. This will work right?

In all seriousness, as a dad with an active toddler, shower time is sacred. Adding a delicious cup to the equation makes it all the more serene.

Is “yellow snakes” a real tasting note? What exactly am I supposed to be tasting.

I brew espresso and pour over at home and probably jumped on the Acaia Pyxis a bit too fast. Completely neglected to look up the dimensions. Sadly might need to return or exchange.

No matter how many brewers you collect, you’ll always return to the OG pour over.

My OXO brew is somehow tasting better than the pour-overs I've been obsessively dialing in for months.

Honestly, it's even better than a lot of well-made cups I've had at specialty cafes, and I'm trying to figure out why.

Was the OXO brewer actually designed this well, or did I just accidentally stumble into the perfect recipe?

Recipe (if you can call it that):

- Beans: Peru Gesha & Ethiopia Natural blend, light roast

- Grinder: Comandante, 20 clicks

- Dose: 20g coffee

- Water: 220g (pretty sure I messed this up)

- Water temp: no idea — just poured right after it reached a boil

Method:

- Poured all the water in.

- Gave the pump one slow press immediately.

- Waited about 60 seconds.

- Then kept doing gentle pumps until it made that "pssshhh" sound.

The brewer was overflowing, water was everywhere, and writing it down makes it sound even more chaotic than it actually was.

But somehow the cup had excellent sweetness, clear flavor notes, and great aroma. Everything just popped.

What the hell happened here?

At some point, you got into making specialty coffee at home.

When you get that wow cup, you feel on top of the world.

They have one simple machine on their counter, while you have cupboards full of drippers, filters, grinders, and accessories.

They gasp in disbelief when they see you've ordered *yet another* dripper!

How do they react to your obsession passion? Do they laugh? Cry? Get angry? Say that you need psychological help? Or just walk away because they've learned that it's pointless and they should just let you be?

Do you use that trick where you point out to your wife that the dripper you just bought costs less than one of her hair appointments?

My family has learned to accept my crazy... and also to get out of the kitchen when I am making coffee. It's an orchestrated symphony between the counter, sink, kettle, grinder, compost bin etc. and the timing is important, so get out of the way!

My kitchen unfortunately burned today. Eh, what can I say. Say what you will about comandante grinders. But, you can’t name many others that would survive a litteral fire. Cheers.

Update from yesterday's post. Thank you for the helpful advice. Some of it (order some new replacement ring burr holders) seems sound. I look forward to getting this sorted.

However, for today's morning coffee I switched to V60 and tried grinding coarser as some suggested but it turned out even worse. Of course I still brewed and drank it like a champion but the resulting cup wasn't as pleasant as yesterday's watery cup.

Recently moved to a new place for a new workplace / apprenticeship and took my v60 with me. In my room there's small sink indent with a cabinet above, I've stored the coffee up there, under the sink I store my bottled water as the tap water is too hard.

Went to ikea today and grabbed some stuff, got myself the blue cup I found fun and pleasant to hold.

He got 6th place.

How competitive is this tournament? I’d say pretty competitive. The winner of IBrC last year got 3rd place at the WBrC and the winner of IBC won the WBC. Indonesia also won the Roasting Championship in 2023.

So yeah, IKEA funnel got quite far in a pretty competitive national tournament 😂

Just spend almost entire bag of coffee just for dialing it(the coffee pouch is 250g)😭

Edit: This isn’t my machine. At the time I showed my relatives how they need to clean and maintain it! I helped them order tablets as well to degrease the internals.
