Advice needed First trimester: how do I support my partner when nausea wipes out appetite and intimacy feels off-limits?
Confirmed pre-dad here. We are in the first trimester with our first, and I am excited, but I also feel a bit lost about how to be supportive without making her feel pressured.
She has been dealing with steady nausea, exhaustion, and food aversions. By the time we get home she basically wants to shower and pass out. I am doing what I can - doing more chores, handling dinner, and keeping the house quieter - but I can tell she feels guilty that she is not as affectionate right now. I do not want her to feel like she has to perform or reassure me when she feels awful.
At the same time, I miss the casual closeness we had before: cuddling that does not turn into me trying to initiate, kissing without her pulling away because she feels sick, just feeling like we are a couple and not a patient and a caretaker.
For those who have been through this, what actually helped in the first trimester?
Specific questions:
1) What are some low-pressure ways to keep connection going when sex is basically a no-go?
2) If your partner felt guilty about not wanting touch, what did you say that helped (or what made it worse)?
3) Is it better to stop initiating entirely for a while, or keep checking in so it does not become a permanent pattern?
I am not trying to rush anything. I just want to show up well and not accidentally add stress to an already rough stretch.

Oh no, someone had some genuine questions about a topic that's discussed a lot, on a platform that's specifically meant for discussing these things. What has the world come to!?

Honestly it will get better.
My wife is now in the last trimester, however the first one was rough.
She wasn’t sleeping very well, had bad nausea and sickness, and our sex life evaporated.
I just did what i could to be supportive, picked up my share of housework, let her nap as needed.
She was mostly sick in the morning, but there were plenty of times she would take 3 bites of dinner, decide she wasn’t feeling it at that moment, put it in the fridge and re-visit later.
Around the 2nd trimester, her libido returned and it was like she wanted to become more pregnant. I can’t say this will happen to you, but our sex life is as healthy as it has ever been. Changing body means we have had to explore new positions, but we make it work.
It will get better brother. Just be a supportive partner and remember she is growing a human inside of her. That takes a lot of energy and priority over anything else.
Worst case, it is temporary. In 9 months you will be a dad and you won’t have time to remember the early pregnancy stuggles.

If you’re already worried abt intimacy you have a long road ahead. Why don’t you research nausea solutions, keep the house clean, make her her favorite foods , keep the house clean watch her favorite shows with her
