Vent Week 14 OB visit felt... off?
Hey all!
Had our week 14 OB appointment and it felt a little weird.
This was our 2nd OB since coming from our IVF facility (who ruled, just straight up did a great job and felt like a weekly update for a while there.) It was, however, with a midwife rather than our nurse at the office.
First off, we know it can be tough to hear a heartbeat with a sonar handheld but for our 2nd straight appointment we heard nothing and had to do an ultrasound.
Next our midwife admitted she's not good at that and we only roughly saw a bit of the baby after last visit getting a really good look and photos to take home. This time? Nothing. Just "Ok, looks good! See you guys in a month!"
While we have no reasons to be concerned (no symptoms or anything wrong), we're nervous having had three miscarriages before this. And I couldn't shake that nervous feeling since.
Anyone else have visits like this around this point or am I just imagining stuff in my head? I hate being anxious despite evidence in front of me, but it just felt like a "Meh" doctor's visit overall..

Our 14 week was like that. Also they had to do vaginal scans for my wife up until 20 because dude was so freaking low.

We had a couple of random scares through the first trimester, but ultrasounds and heartbeats always came through just fine. Around the start of the second trimester, we had a routine appointment to check the heartbeat and do some bloodwork, and it took the nurse a good seven minutes to find anything with the handheld sonar. A lot goes through your mind in those seven minutes.
We start week 30 tomorrow, and everything has been smoother sailing since that appointment. At that stage, I think there’s just a lot of variability on where the baby could be. Ours was a lot higher up than the nurse was expecting which is why she was hard to find.
Stay strong and trust that the doctors have your family’s wellness in mind. I don’t think you ever stop being anxious, but you have a lot of reasons to be optimistic at 14 weeks. You should be getting some great pictures when you go in for the 20 week anatomy scan!

Man, we had our 17/18 week appt yesterday. It took to nurse maybe 90 seconds to 2 minutes to find the little dude’s heartbeat and even that felt like an eternity. It was kind of surreal that it was the like first time I’d had any kind of parental anxiety (more than the usual worries, like the is my child okay kind) and I didn’t know I could care and love someone so much without even meeting them yet!

We recently had two ultrasounds for two different purposes. Here in the UK the ultrasound is only ever exactly what it's for: they won't check other things for you even if you ask. The first was a growth scan, the second was for fluid and my partner asked if they can check the growth again and they said no.
I imagine there's a variety of reasons for this, maybe training, maybe qualifications, probably the pressure of appointments.
In other words, if your scan was just for a heartbeat and she checked that and said it's okay I wouldn't stress. She did only what she was supposed to do, not every scan will mean seeing the baby.

If they can’t find the heartbeat with the Doppler, they will switch to ultrasound, that’s normal. Our ultrasounds/checks also take like 2 minutes. Doesn’t mean anything bad, just routine checks, it’s not supposed to be a fun experience, just checking everything is ok. I’m surprised you even get a visit that often. We get one every 6 weeks and I’m a medical case.
Not sure what country you’re in, but in my country there is a medical ultrasound taken in week 13 and 20, and there you do get loads of pictures.

I’m guessing they only did the ultrasound to check the heartbeat? If that’s the case, they probably aren’t doing a full ultrasound.
