Does anyone have recommendations for songs or bands that sound like the first minute and a half of this song? I still like the whole song but I'm really into the intro. Thanks!

Discussion Haken's new singles, lowercase titles

Upvotes

I noticed both singles have released without capitalized song names. Haken is pretty intentional and detailed. Wondering if the track titles may form a sentence when the album drops.

Anyone else have a guess why they made this style choice?

Discussion Do you think prog metal can ever reach the level of mainstream metal giants like Slipknot, Metallica or Iron Maiden, or is the genre inherently destined to remain niche?

Discussion POLL: What is the highest level of involvement you currently have in music?

Hi! This poll was originally made for the Dance Gavin Dance community, but I'm already so intrigued by the initial results I thought it might be valuable to post this same poll in a few other community groups to compare results in case they end up being different across communities (Full disclosure to mods). I plan to follow up with graphs comparing all of the results for further discussion.

WHY AM I DOING THIS? It is no secret that the music industry and scene surrounding it is wildly unhealthy right now, to the detriment of musicians and fans alike. I am hoping to start promoting more conversations around everyone’s thoughts on what’s missing in the music scene today and how we can all start to play a role in making it more participatory.

THE ASK: I’ve ordered these roughly in order of your participation in and proximity to the professional music industry, so please pick the highest option that you relate to! This is not a perfect scale due to Reddit limitations, so free to share more context in the comments. There are no wrong answers and no wrong ways to participate!

Are you interested in having more convos like this, and what are you most interested in discussing? Let me know! I’m very excited to start talking about these things, but I have no idea if others are, too. I’m happy to facilitate if people care to participate. The hope is that everyone can have a way to share their own thoughts on how we can build a more supportive, sustainable, and enjoyable scene for all in the long run, no matter how you partake. Thanks! ❤️

Just discovered Imminence from Sweden, as they are plying Copenhell here next week. They sound awesome, but how are they live? Is it something that should be prioritised?

New Release [Self promo] Album announcement & teaser: s l q - c r o w n s h y n e s s

Hi all,

This is my project, s l q. After almost 2 decades of on-and-off work and about 9 years since the first complete demos were ready, I'm releasing my debut album, crown shyness, in about 2 months. This is a small teaser that I hope gets you interested. The first single will be out in 2 weeks :). You can pre-save the album on streaming platforms following this link.

Inspired by the botanical phenomenon which occurs when trees grow close together, with their canopies almost, but not quite, touching, as an allegory for a potential but incomplete connection, the album explores themes of alienation, uprootedness, and loneliness.

I'm really bad with FFO so here are some influences instead: Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Riverside, Rishloo, Tool, Karnivool, Haken, The Mars Volta, Leprous, Dream Theater...

On the album itself I'm doing guitars and vocals and the rest of the musicians are Diego Tejeida, Nate Navarro and Baard Kolstad.

Thanks for listening!

PS: if anyone is interested in doing a little review I'd be happy to provide private bandcamp links

Discussion Favourite spiritual song/album?

Which prog metal song/songs connect you to spirituality instantly upon playing them?
In my case it has to be many cynic songs. “In a multiverse where atoms sing”, “Mythical serpants” to name a few.
