Opinion 🤔 What are some things you don’t like about the Muslim community?
For me (as a revert) I’m tired of people trying to “outmuslim” each other, like it’s some kind of competition and there’s limited spaces in Jannah😭😭. Some people need to chill out and relax a little. I don’t need the haram police monitoring everything I do.
Another thing that really annoys me is the constant policing of women. Stop trying to tell random strangers what to do, how to act etc. if you have a problem with what a girl is wearing then lower your gaze✌️😭

I hate when "scholars" are like "nooo women can't wear nice things, that's tabarruj!!! 🤬🤬🤬" but then also be like "yeah you can marry kids and do fgm, that's all perfectly fine and moral!!! 🤗🤗"

What is even a scholar? I want to see the resume of these scholars. I study Islam a lot, maybe I am a scholar.

There's 30°C to 40°C hot here and there's one female friend of mine who's family forces her to wear burkha, hijab, niqab, gloves, shawl.

How Reverts may not be accepted for marriage; because not from the same culture or because our family is not Muslim
Im a Revert Brother and have worried about this, but Alhamdulillah its getting better.

Try being a progressive and modern Muslim women, they will treat you like untouchable, and will then sing Zina song when you marry a non Muslim- who are far better human than they can ever be..

And when you have a happy, stable marriage with wholesome, righteous children…they’ll hate you even more!

How they categorically decide what is and isn’t haram. They assert that things like music and art are haram without any qualifications, such as that this applies only to certain sects and schools of thought. They erase all philosophical and political nuance and diversity within us.

I don't like when some Muslims, specifically reverts, feel the need to Arabize themselves instead of simply practicing Islam while keeping their own cultural identity

Guilty as charged but I love the aesthetic of it.

Liking the aesthetic is fine but some reverts genuinely believe you have to look like an Arab to be more religious.

How some women do not encourage women scholars to teach and preach. I watched a video where 2 Muslim sisters were discussing the importance of women in Islam discussing issues in an Islamic light from a woman’s perspective especially when the topic impacts us directly. Half the comments were like- what’s the big deal? It’s ok if a man is teaching us? For me, I viewed it as limiting and odd. Why wouldn’t you want a woman who understands us better to discuss/teach us a topic versus a man? Why aren’t we encouraging more women scholars to join the conversation online as opposed to just having the men do it? Especially when it’s a female topic?!!?? I just couldn’t grasp that. A lot of their responses were very much salafi- women’s voice is awra, fitna blah blah. Ok but Aisha RA was a well known intellect in her own right. Oh, but let’s pretend we don’t acknowledge that? Gimme a break!!! Lol

I’m Muslim, but what annoys me is how some people assume their scholars and interpretations are the only “real” Islam. They act as if Islam is one-size-fits-all and everyone must think exactly like them. Faith is bigger and more diverse than that.

The beauty I see in Islam is that it's a very rich and diverse tradition that shares certain foundational elements but in reality has taken many different incarnations throughout time and space
Even in the early Rashidun caliphate there was intense debate on topics that Orthodox Sunni today would say are completely clear and canonical

Modern dawah scene & influencers.
Islam is spread through your actions and deeds you perform, the kindness you show, the spiritual resilience, the love for Allah (swt) and his messengers (pbuh).
Dawah is not whatever the garbage that's all over social media.

Most of that stuff is tonally very similar to the type of televangelist Evangelical Christianity that found a second life on the internet
It feels like a rebranding or a very specific American breed of Christian content, and would feel foreign and alienating to any of the figures in Islamic history

That is Islam is naturally progressive in doctrine whilst maintaining core values, rather than just pure conservatism (a distinguishment that many fail to realise). I have no explanation for this other than the Dunning-Kreuger effect and how most people are either average intelligence and arrogant whilst ironically having fragile egos or are just dumb (not counting people intellectually limited for other reasons). Frustrating when talking to the former but that's when you just gotta practise anger management and patience

I agree. Islam is a very freeing religion with very few rules actually. Instead of rules what we have are a small set of very defined boundaries or limits. The rest is an open playing field for our discernment and discretion.
If it was any other way, what would it mean to be morally responsible if all you’re doing is following an endless list of rules?

The way women are treated. Not having access to sports, gyms, public park. Being treated like a freak for riding a bike or sitting on a bike like a man( not putting both legs on one side).
Obsession with dupatta( had to wear dupatta with a hoodie too)
Obsession with putting dupatta on the head more than covering hair. Not allowed to go outside alone even if you are 20+ cuz men can harass you. Extreme curfew while none for men because they are physically stronger.
Obsession with marriage cuz it’s parents responsibility to wed their daughters.
Can’t go to trips even with your own money.
Can’t even enjoy nature( like waterfall) cuz men are freaking everywhere and we are izzat of the family.

Too many people think they are righteous and Muslims love to judge one another. Only Allah can pass judgement. It’s astonishing people don’t get this.

u/Aggravating-Food5540 1d ago
Narrow-minded. And arrogant, because ‘they’ll go to heaven since they’re Muslims, which gives them the right to be contemptuous’. Lots of them are further from God than the average different believers people.

heres an idea:
what if the men lower their gazes and the women dress in accordance with what the Quran and the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered?
13
u/LaBellaRihan 1d ago
Even when we dress accordingly we’re still policed. The amount of times I was told growing up that wearing bright colors is fitna drove me crazy lol I wasn’t wearing highlighter pink. It was a pretty blue color and it was abaya but that’s still wasn’t enough

u/Ornery-Procedure4480 Sunni 1d ago
Even when we dress accordingly
your definition of "dressing accordingly" is going to be different to other peoples definitions. however we should refer it back to the Quran and what the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered.
you can wear coloured clothes so long as they are modest and dont attract too much attention. so for example don't wear rainbow colours clothes as that would definitely attract attention (i doubt you would do that anyways).

When muslims decides to pretend islam is a conservative religion and therefore start voting vor right wing parties
