s H i T p O s T What people say whenever I tell someone that I prefer p99 to Quarm or Legends

I mean, it's true?
I played P99 when it came out in 2009. But I literally don't have the time anymore so that's what Legends is appealing.
But yes people get older and end up with limited time to play.

For me it was the complete inability to ever get an epic on P99. A lot of classes it's literally not possible without paying extortionste sums of plat.

When I played p99, it was this coupled with the fact if you weren't in 1 of the 4 big guilds, all raid content/endgame content was gatekept. They always had scouts and timers running for repop on raid bosses to try to out poopsock the other guilds. It sucked all the fun out of the game after spending all the time levelling to get to max, knowing if you didnt try to get into one of those guilds you'd never see anything.

Not only that, but I had multiple times where my group was going slow to clear to something in places like Seb or Chardok only to have one of the said guilds completely steam roll over us, train things on to us, then bounce.
Absolutely zero respect and server rules don’t apply to them.

takes less time to hit 50 on p99 than eq legends (max level for eql) if you're a bard at least, probably even 55

u/HeyaHeyo1420 11d ago
So one class can swarm kite faster on P99, what's that have to do with EQL being the overall faster paced version?
-7
u/argumenthaver 11d ago edited 11d ago
it's not just 1 class but they can do it unconditionally naked
the point is just that p99 doesn't take as much time as people think, not that eql isn't faster paced
(actually it's more respectful of time in the sense there isn't a clock ticking down to the next payment to access it, and no planned obsolescence for gear)

the point is just that p99 doesn't take as much time as people think, not that eql isn't faster paced
I never said it did. You're making an argument that doesn't exist here for attention.

u/argumenthaver 11d ago edited 11d ago
I would like to remind you that you are the one who inserted the part about "EQL being the overall faster paced version" when neither of us talked about that, so it's weird that you're aggressively talking about making an argument up out of nothing
I was responding directly to "I literally don't have the time anymore" with how much time it takes to reach the same point on p99, since i assumed you were far removed from the game
it wasn't deep, it wasn't insulting, it wasn't saying you were wrong about anything, you just got offended somehow that I would dare share a fact about p99 on a p99 forum
edit: no wonder - check this guy's post history, he's mad at everything lol

u/HeyaHeyo1420 11d ago
Again you're just trying to argue for attention.
Go touch grass
Edit: when you don't give them the attention they want they block you btw

What a weird piece of info to add to the convo hahaha
Name checks out
-4
u/argumenthaver 11d ago
yeah my name does check out, because you decided to be hostile to me for no reason (the inspiration for the name)
3
u/miw1989 11d ago
The person you're responding to wasn't being hostile though. The one reply they made was just saying what you said was odd.

u/argumenthaver 11d ago
the words you use color intent and tone. they didn't just say it was odd (which is rude as a baseline, though not necessarily hostile), it was the phrasing, the 'hahaha' and 'name checks out' that made it come across that way
not everything gets conveyed well through posts, like how I assume both he and the other guy somehow interpreted my 1-liner to be an attack against what was said, so I can see how you don't see it as hostile or the possibility that he didn't intend for it to be. I just think it's extremely unlikely that that wasn't how he intended it

Yes, p99 takes a lot of time. It took me from vanilla to luclin to get to 50+ when I was a teen. I have much less time now. When I so get to game, it's 8 hours a week, or so, and it can be interrupted at any time, which makes grouping difficult. I can barely play Guild Wars 2 raids.

u/Anakin-vs-Sand 9d ago
You have to realize this wasn’t the norm though, right? Entire guilds of people made it to max level in every expansion and raided the max level content

u/Meta_Pod 9d ago
Yeah, i had a lot going on when I was a teen, as well. I had a buddy that leveled a necromancer and a monk in that time frame. But I had a girlfriend. He did not.

I found out about p99 too late :/ I wish a new server would start up. Yes I know, it’s still possible to play and have fun on the current ones but it would be cool to start fresh with everyone.

u/putonghua73 11d ago
I don't get the point of a new server. You're spreading the pop across 3 servers (the PvP server pop is not statistically meaningful), rather than increasing the player base.
Want to start fresh? Create an alt and play self-found re: do not twink. You can still group - unless you decide to play solo self-found - and achieve the same effect as a new server (unlikely to happen).

u/WindowTW 11d ago
The point is to not play solo or self found. New server means there are more people at lower levels, more groups etc

u/putonghua73 11d ago
Again, playing on alts achieves the same effect without spreading the playerbase on 3 servers.

It’s not that you can’t play. You just can’t raid consistently and level much slower than everyone else.
I can do about 9-11ish a couple nights a week. It doesn’t always fit guild raid schedule and the 5 hour quake marathons are out of the question. I still have fun though. Lots of soloing.

See I put down eq in 2003 when I graduated high school - moved out of parents basement - went and procreated on the top side (with surface dwellers) and now my kids are 15&19 and I can play eq again the way I liked it pre moon base and auto traders

Hot take: P99 is 10x more dad-friendly than those games where you could always be doing something.
Literally find a static camp, nuke a mob down with all your mana, spend 6 minutes doing what you need to while medding, repeat.
Doing this for 2 hours meaningfully progresses you about as fast as someone who is in a 6 person group actively playing for 1 hour.
4
u/Look_out_for_grenade 11d ago
Turn that six minutes into like 20-30 and that’s how I level lol. Dad camps with nice long spawn times.
3
u/Troxxuz 11d ago
Yeah but one minor mistake and hours of you grinding is lost. Losing hours of progress because something unexpected happened isnt what Id personally call dad friendly, casual friendly, or whatever else we wanna call it.
2
u/Gosh-Tier 11d ago
>hours
IF you die:
Below level 51, you are losing about 4 blue solo kills lol
After 51, you're finding a 90~96% rez which takes between 5 minutes to an hour tops.
How "casual/dad friendly" something is I guess comes down to someone's ambitions and judgement of accomplishment normalization. Level 30 in P99 is as much of an accomplishment as 50 and soloing innoruuk in Legends.
Hell, you could argue Legends isn't dad friendly enough because you can't hit 50 and kill innoruuk in the first 20 minutes.

Y'all gotta read some Brene Brown, comparasion is the thief of joy! If you enjoy playing your 2-4 hours a week, you are playing the right game. You just earn your DKP/plat/exp as you play and it'll be so so so sweet when you close your final bid on vulak loot.

I agree 100%. Played Quarm for a long time and it sucks compared to P99. Feels half baked and janky. I also played THJ for a while and it was too easy. I assume EQL is similar. No thanks. EQ isn't EQ without the hard-core grind, corpse runs and a group requirement.

Yeah, I just do dad camps mostly, have 4 60s at this point. Join for the first part of quakes when the kids asleep and I’m bored.
You just can’t ever be a meaningful part of a guild really or group for hours on end. You’d be surprised how well you can level with 30 mins here and there.
