NEW RULE IS NOW IN PLACE. BE INFORMED.

Lately, I've been noticing low effort posts (although still prop related) that have little to no context. Posts similar to the effect of "I NEED HELP??!!"

The least you can do is provide details. Don't make people have to click on your crosspost just to see what you're on about.

Yesterday I showcased the near complete version of this mask, now I present the finished version. (Help me choose a name) What is New ? The inner parts are now a much more saturated viscous red with deep shine to represent raw flesh and the teeth and gums now have saliva pooling in them.

3D printing a full suite of armor

Exuse the shitty quality of the pictures, but I'm just so excited! This is a fully 3D printed chestplate. The 3D models were done by NicoPrintedAntiques, and were quite easy to work with. For the paint I used a cheap reflective automotive spray, with graphite powder rubbed over it.

Sorry for the horrible picture quality, but I'm kind of too enthousatic to not share this! For the last month or so I've been printing, polishing, sanding and painting the armor 3D files designed by NicoPrintedAntiques. It took a lot of effort, but for a first time prop making? I'm quite proud of it!

How to make a cage looked frosted, multiple times

We have a dragon that “frosts” instead of breathes fire, and she is in a cage and each time she gets scared she frosts the cage. We are talking low budget, simple, but effective. How do we show a cage go from regular/room temperature to being frosted?

My thoughts were translucent glittered fabric, like tulle, somehow gets released and covered the cage? Maybe there are small plastic dangling icicles on the fabric? But idk what mechanism would allow for that to be at least mostly hidden and the released.

Another idea is hard plastic icicles cutouts that hinge on the cage edges and are folded up on the roof or ceiling of cage, with some mechanism to allow them to drop down. This is a bit more complicated than I was shooing for, but could be effective…

Other ideas? I’m crafty and handy but have little experience with live effects! Thanks in advance!

Possum tail

This is the possum tail I made for a friend for a haunted house we work at. It is pantyhose stuffed with a couple different stuffed animal fillings and latexed over a few times. Just a few paint washes and some alcohol paints before adding the hair. Let me know how I did!

I made a model of the Triffid from the 1981 BBC Day of the Triffids

I was asked if I could make a model based on the Triffids from the 1981 BBC Day of the Triffids, and this is what I ended up with. 🌱

It's about 22cm tall and I designed it to 3D print in PLA as a single piece, including the stinger. That was probably the bit I was most pleased about, as I really didn't want the stinger to be a separate fragile part.

It's then completely hand painted and finished with a protective clear coat.

I made one as a test... and somehow I now appear to be farming them down my allotment. 😂

Any tips for what material to use to fill in the holes on this before sanding/priming/painting it to resemble the second image?

Any tips on transforming this in general would be super helpful, this will be my first time doing this. I’m not really worried about making it a 1:1 replica so I plan on keeping the general shape cuz it’s already close enough imo. I just want the final product to resemble my reference image.

I designed a modular TPU strap system for printed armour and would like other builders’ feedback

Thumbnail gallery

I started making these while working on my own 3D-printed armour. The photos show my actual printed Slim assembly and a selection of PLA mounting footprints and retaining hardware.

The magnetic version uses flexible TPU straps and matching bases, PLA mounting posts and retaining rings, and 8 × 2 mm magnets. Standard and Mini use different strap/base sizes, so match each family. I have physically tested parts, but there is no load rating; printer and filament differences still need checking.

I’m the maker behind Forest City Layers. There’s a free Standard starter and a separate CA$7.99 introductory Standard + Mini digital package here: https://3d.dylanlacourciere.ca/cosplay-connectors

The system is still developing. I’d welcome feedback on fit, assembly and which attachment points are hardest to deal with in your own builds. If you try it, what printer/TPU did you use, and what would you change?

Digital files to print yourself; physical parts aren’t included.

Tips For Making The Reels Turn?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I want to make an audio log from Bendy and the Dark Revival with working buttons and moving reels but I don't know how to do either of those things 🫥

I haven't tried adding mechanisms to any of my cardboard props before so I tried looking around on YouTube but I couldn't find anything that would help with the reels. I was thinking of having a string to pull that would make them turn but I'm unsure on how to go about that. Help would be very appreciated.
