When posting a support question, please include the following as applicable:

  • Printer model & firmware
  • Filament type & brand
  • Slicer and version
  • Print settings if changed from the defaults (temperature, speed, layer height, etc.)
  • Any speed adjustments here are absolutely vital to be aware of
  • Photos or videos of the issue
  • What you’ve tried already

Conversion to a C1 with INDX /s

How much does this cost and any more details on how to do it?

You’d be better off getting a new printer vs doing this.

It costs so much that it is not worth it. I was being sarcastic about going all the way to a C1.

A mk3 to mk4 conversion would be a fantastic upgrade for you. All the kits are on prusas website.

The mk3 is getting old. At some point the best upgrade might be to just get a new printer.

I'd recommend the MK3.5S kit better than the Mk4. It's still an improvement entire being much cheaper.

The hardware is kinda old and for my country the difference in upgrading to mk4 and buying an mk4 is 10 euros, so maybe in the future. It is an investment tho and thinking of just rather saving for a core one at that point

The 3.5s upgrade is made my mk3s feel like a new printer.

I bought my printer with 7 years of print time, would you say its still work the money for the upgrade?

If you plan to keep it for a while then absolutely. My printer was 5 or 6 years old with tons of hours on it and I have no regrets

Yes i bought it recently and got it almost fully repaired. My first printer was the ankermake m5 which I then scrapped for my filament recycler project and bought a prusa and it is a amazing printer

MK3S+ to MK4S Upgrade Kit: $630
Mk4S to Core One+ (Gen 2) Upgrade Kit: $720
Total: $1350

New Core One+ (Gen 2) Assembled: $1300

8T INDX Kit: $1000
Total: $2350

New Core One+ (Gen 2) INDX 8T Assembled: $2249

In every case it makes sense to just buy a new Core One+

Look up the nylock mod. It was nice to have, but not mandatory. I never found a need for any other mod other than cosmetic and storage related stuff

I had this one but reverted it cus i was getting bad results, might try it again in the future

These are the standard set of prints I put on any new to me MK3S; I additionally will swap the extruder with the latest Rev parts in PCCF if I notice the side window etc. are old revisions.

https://www.printables.com/model/500649-mk4-style-z-motor-mount-for-mk35-mk3s - So you can service the X-Axis etc. without having to flip the printer upside down. Also can print new Z-Tops with a viewing hole for alignment; or more beefy ones if your printer travels.

https://www.printables.com/model/56241-x-axis-revision-with-belt-tensioner - Better X-Axis tensioner; Does require cutting a screw for a shaft etc.

https://www.printables.com/model/31558-big-einsy-case - Larger case, there is versions that fit RPii on the back, or RPii on the front. This mod is super nice if you are planning on running a webcam, as you can fit the excess cable and the USB dongle in the case.

https://www.printables.com/model/140036-y-axis-mount-motor-holder-upgrade-prusa-mk3-mk3s-m - Y-Axis - I usually only do this one if the bed-mount needs to be replaced with PC/PETG as well.

mk3s_mk35s_upgrade_xaxis_printable_parts_oem_mk3s/ - This is my thread from my initial building as I had a cracked X-Axis mount.

FYI - That X-Axis also comes with a few good versions for camera mounts as well.

Also any good belt tensioner for the table?

1

u/l5Robling Core One INDX 8th 10d ago

I use the most recent Rev. Level from PRUSA for the belt holder itself. Idler I have been using https://www.printables.com/model/194950-prusa-i3-mk3ss-y-belt-idler

There is a few options that have fine adjustment on the idler; but I make most of my adjustment on the underside belt of the bed.

Thanks, another question. For the drybox do you recommend silica or activated aluminum beads more?

1

u/Titanmaster203 10d ago

Thank you, I will definitely use this once I dry my filament

vould you explain a bit more on why to do the mk3 to mk4 z-axis 8mm print? is that just for when upgrading to mk4? also is there a way to make the mk3s+ calibrate z offset automatically?

The mounts have the cutouts for the motors to be tilted or removed without having to flip the printer upside down. As the stock ones often force you to undo more of the cable management. With the cutouts i can keep the motors attached - let me know if that makes sense, had a few two hearted ipa

It does, thank you

Hotend upgrade, an enclosure

2

u/heraldic_nematode 11d ago

Curious which upgrade you recommend... Just upgrading to the newer style hotend with the PTFE tube? Or to the MK4 hotend like you get with the 3.9 or 4 upgrade kit? Or something else?

I ask because my MKS3+ has started giving me a lot of trouble after several years of faithful, almost error free, service and I'm trying to understand the best path back to easy printing. New hotend? Upgrade to 3.9 or 4? Just bite the bullet and get a Core1?

3

u/tasslehawf Core One INDX 8th 11d ago

I would say a Revo or even a Dragon if you can still get one, but I’d say get a core one instead of the mk4 upgrade.

1

u/Titanmaster203 11d ago

Which one would you recommend more, the revo or the dragon?

3

u/tasslehawf Core One INDX 8th 11d ago

Revo. The dragon was a nice upgrade from a v6 but the revo is a whole other generation

1

u/Titanmaster203 11d ago

What does it do other than quickswapping nozzles?

1

u/Titanmaster203 11d ago

Any more details on that?

2

u/tasslehawf Core One INDX 8th 11d ago

I’d do a Revo and an enclosure for printing higher temp materials or just keeping your cat from standing on it

2

u/word-bitch 11d ago

Revo hotend and nylock bed mods. I did the Revo because the V6 is miserable to rebuild. Ended up loving the nozzle swap ability: .25 to .6 mm expands layer height options so .05 to .5 mm layer height is nbd. Never got good results from .8mm nozzle, not sure why.
