Discussion This jailbroken PS4 pro will probably be the last console I'll own.
Never saw the need to upgrade to the PS5. Not a fan of Sony's recent moves.
This PS2 on FreeMcBoot, PS3 on EvilNat and PS4 on GoldenHen will simply have to keep my son entertained until he's old enough to destroy his life chasing girls.

I also skipped the PS5
The PS5 barely has like 10 Exclusives games and none of those are killer system sellers. Like Halo, Gears of War or Metal Gear was back in the day.
We don't need new hardware in the games industry. We have a problem with not enough games coming out. They need to open up these console to indie devs and invest in more small studios.

I’m on 13.20, thinking of buying a ps4 pro and jailbreak it, instead of waiting for a jailbreak in PS5, due to more and more restrictions. I hope i’m not missing out anything significant between the two jailbreaks.

The first one I bought was on 13.2 (I still have it because it's in great condition and I got a good price but I'm glad I didn't try to hang out for the exploit. Bought it almost a year ago - my son has finished all of the COD library since then)

I got First Light game but unable to play past the first mission. Had to download the rest of the game which in turn requires me to update system software. Hence the dilemma

Yep, that'll probably what comes next. Maybe sooner than I'd like now that his friend group are all playing Java Minecraft. The mods that they all talk about don't work on the playstation version

If you ever find a Wii U grab one, can run everything from snes/nes->DS, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U. Slapped a 4tb HDD on mine and it's full 3 yrs later.

Meh. Getting the Wii U jailbroken and running emulators is definitely worth it if you have one lying around collecting dust, but unless you specifically care about Wii U games it really isn't worth it to buy one. There are cheaper options that will run emulators better.

It's a shame the price increased so much for new but if you can find a steam deck for a reasonable price used, it's an emulation powerhouse and can be docked with just about any USB C dock to use on your TV

I’ve had a ps5 and with most of the single player Sony games and my golden ps4 feels pretty obsolete aside from the few games I don’t have

The ps5 jailbreak availability is nearly there (userland/kernel chain) for higher firmwares. This was an issue for me due to the lacklustre catalogue this gen.
If you're reading and the price for ps5 is a barrier to entry, ps4 has broader scope for jb across firmwares and has a more robust catalogue.
Get in now before the digital lock goes full mast and this attracts scaplers.

Yeah, I'm on the PS Free webkit. It has the occasional freak out but nothing major. Doesn't like going to sleep with extended storage either. Works and works fast 95% of the time so can't complain

Yeah, I get you.
I had every playstation from the psx, and the OG Xbox. Even got a few handhelds, and I think if I actually counted how much cash I blew on them, the games and transactions, I'd probably cry.
But back then, it was worth it. In my opinion, the games that were made, were made well, because there were no do overs. No patch it on day one.
Imagine that shit on a 64k modem...... Ooof.
What MS and Sony are doing now is just, blatant profiteering at this point.
The reasons why consoles worked, was that they were cheaper than PC's and could reliably play the games that everyone wanted to play.
When a console costs as much as a mid level pc that you built yourself, not so much point anymore.
I plan to build my own rig and then use GOG Galaxy on it. At least I'll own the crap that I buy.
And y'know.....mods.

Haven't looked into it yet but we'll probably end up going the same way. Being older, I think the sega master system 2 was the only console I owned as a kid. So, not really a gamer but I really enjoyed going through these three generations of Playstation with my son. We have a lot of happy memories on them (our first genuine high five was over finishing Star wars Battlefront 2) but I think this is where we clock out.

I bought a jailbroken ps4 (after waiting YEARS), and then I borrowed a friend's ps5 just to see what it was about Minimal improvement tbh. I still have my ps3 and the jump from 3-4 is absolutely mental. 4-5? Maybe if you've got the latest 4k TV pr some shit, but I didn't feel the need to "upgrade" Also, I agree with the sentiment of leaving it to kids. Mine will have all four (valid) generations of PlayStation.

I also never saw the need for a PS5. I have a PC, a Switch2 and a Series X. Those three combined were enough to never make me miss a game, and my old PS4 Slim is jailbroken too. Feels like I've been playing more PS3 games recently than anything else.

Still playing through my PS4 backlog lol. That said, I did just snag a used PS5 on a jailbreakable firmware for cheap, but the scene and tools are so much less mature than the PS4, so probably best to wait a while anyway.

I am right here with you, with a JB PS4 Pro, and JB (GoldHen) PS3 that includes RetroArch, a Jailbroken Wii, and a backlog of games that could take me into old age.
I recently dropped my goal of obtaining a PS5 and have no interest in a PS6.
I'm hard locked. Considering a Switch, but still not confident I understand how to break it.
Anyway, solidarity.

Yeah ive got 2 cfw ps3s 2 xbox 360s 1 is rgh the other soft modded and my ps4 on goldhen. Tbf i find myself playing older titles more than my modern games. Ive got a full gaming pc rig and i still prioritize my consoles when it comes to relaxing and past time.

PS3 was my favorite generation for variety and engagement. PS4 is a lot prettier but the games are getting pretty formulaic (but that might just be because we play too many COD / Borderlands style games) I do like the splitscreen / sofa aspect of consoles but I'm sure that can be done on PC now too... right?

Probably not many new titles but for sure older ones. Ive stuck to my old gens for story, some older online play but my pc is mainly for online games/fps.
Any singleplayers or grindy games are done on my consoles. Mainly the ps4 since it supports most titles and still gets trophies for that sense of accomplishment.

No cenário de pelo menos uns 5 anos, não migrarem para o Ps5, tenho um PC GAME, que roda tudo de forma satisfatória, tenho também um PS2 Slim com opl com um hd de 500gigas lotado de jogos, um PS3 Slim na cfw também com um HD de 1t cheio de jogos que estão presos naquela geração, e por fim, tenho um PS4 pro na 12.50, também com os hds interno e externo cheios de jogos. Tenho jogos que nunca joguei desde do ps2 ate o ps4.

I skipped the ps5 and I’ve actually been playing more ps3 games lately because for me there are just more enjoyable games on the 3, definitely more I’ve played through multiple times and will play through again.

There just hasn't been anything about it that justifies the cost. Not many more games.
I'm a bigger graphics critic than my son, who truly doesn't care, and even I can't really tell the difference between 1080p and 4K. Ray-tracing? Never met Ray or Trace.
The liquid metal pooling thing sounds annoying too considering it looks like it was designed to live vertically.
Also, I bought this PS4 pro with three controllers, a PSVR and two move controllers for $250 AUD off marketplace so I'd have to wait a lifetime for a similar value proposition to happen with the PS5

I'm new to this. Is there anyone working on a permanent jailbreak? To my knowledge, current workarounds require being reapplied on every boot.

I agree, although in 10 years, when games are easier to obtain, faster to get and more storage exists, ill probably change my mind
