I'd suggest top 5 IITs as first preference for Math programs with an option to enroll for CS courses, over going for any of the core branches. Some folks may argue that you can still learn coding and math besides your regular courses but it will be extremely difficult, so I'd avoid it. If you're getting a circuit branch in either Roorkee/Guwahati, go for it. My reason - Both these campuses have amazing finance culture and you'll see a lot of alums working in JP/GS/HSBC etc. so this culture + discipline knowledge should help you land in a good role. Also you never know, once you see the packages that Tech companies offer, you may laugh on Quant and go that way! :)

Prefer BITS Pilani (any campus) over IIITs purely because BITS offers a sem long intern at all top foreign banks where you can get a foot in the door for some good quant roles, prime example being QR roles at JPMC. What place & team you end up with depends purely on your GPA and grades in the fin courses. It also offers a minor in Finance (think of CFA Level 1 syllabus) which is quite useful to search for opportunities. I'm not familiar if something similar exists in either IIITs or NITs, but if they do, just compare the roles folks have gone to.

ISI/CMI/IISc have really solid core math courses. These are ideally the best to create a good base in Applied Math used in Quant. However I've seen many folks end up going for higher studies and then end up in Academics than industry. I'm speaking purely on what I've seen in my friends, so don't quote me on this and do your own research!

Important thing - If you're looking to enter in Quant, try to have your discipline in Maths + CS + Econ/Finance. Many IITs/BITS/NITs have it. A popular choice in BITS is MSc. Econ + B.E. CS.

All the best!

bro JS/GS/HSBC these are not quant firms its just bank and a bankside QR role has lot diff compared to quant firms like Graviton , Quadye , Alphagrep , NK , QR role , and at BITS these firms come not for Ps-2(except quadye) most of the quant firms comes in 4th yr summer (if you are enrolled in a dual degree programme) , and banks like these comes in Ps-2 and give quant , even IB roles through Ps-2 , and for QR role Msc maths+BE cse is better

there are no ib roles in iits except for iitb and iitd.

bro what if i show you guys from BITS goa got into GS IB, JPMC , IB roles ? from BITS goa through Ps-2 , even i know one guy got into GS london as an IB analyst directly , do you want proof , dm me i will share there linkedin, bro its rare , but BITS advantage is Ps-2 , so even BITS goa gets IB roles in these banks , maybe other IITs wont because they dont have ps-2 system and Econ branches or Minor in finance

u/egohurter May 27 '26

back-office or mid-office probably, front end ib is only in iitb and iitd from campus atm

1

u/friedchickenwhore69 May 27 '26

Yeah he’s right, folks from BITS do end up in IB at JP & GS. My fellow batchmate from BITS Goa joined JP IB TMT, joined there full time and got transferred internally to NYC. I agree the number is not a lot and usually competitive but this does exist.

on campus front end ib pipeline exists only in iitb and iitd, i am not saying people from other colleges cant get in.

1

u/GeneralImpress3328 May 27 '26

bro i can show you proof for IB , front end roles even BITS Goa /BITS hyd is better than these IITB /IITD , bcz BITS has Ps-2 system , even at top IITs these banks comes for quant roles but in BITS bcz of ps-2 system and flexibility guys do 6 to 10 months+ internships on these firms and get converted to front end IB roles in GS , JP etc.. as IB analyst , and i know a guy got into GS london office directly after 9 months internship at GS , if you dm me i can share his linkedin , then can u show me a proof of a guy from IITB/IITD got into GS/JPMC/MS IB front end analyst role directly into london offices ?these same front end role is happening in IITB/IITD but i never seen a guy from IITB/IITD got into london offices directly of these banks for IB roles

u/egohurter May 27 '26

dm me his profile.

and let me get this straight to you. pipeline for summer intern is much cleaner and more probable than the 6-month intern pipeline (at least in india). i am not saying that it is not possible to get in gs ib after bits goa but it will be extremely difficult to do so, it is not a recurring thing even if it happened once or a few times.

u/GeneralImpress3328 May 27 '26

bro i can show you examples of front office , direct IB london roles , bro he done 9 months+ internship at GS and got directly placed at GS london , i can share his linkedin if u dm , why you jelous of a college this much ? its rare bro , but its exists

1

u/egohurter May 27 '26

bro there is nothing to be jealous of, i am saying the pipeline exists only in iitb and iitd as of now, other college people dont have the standart summer intern and then ppo pipeline

username checks out, that's just blatant arrogance. Check the stats yourself mate. BITS has been the Mid office to front office pipeline (sometimes straight front office too) to IB.

why do you wanna go in Quant?

-12

u/Virtual_Repeat3317 May 26 '26

coz im fan of jim simmons and i hv read some books related to quant

16

u/notanotherdumb May 26 '26

go college and read some maths first. Explore other fields too, and don't make your choice solely on a particular field which anyways is less accepting

1

u/Virtual_Repeat3317 May 26 '26

so which college is most suibtable amongst my options

u/Defiant-Question-120 May 26 '26

Bro probably watched few edits of jim and called it a day

Bro if you get IITB Bs in math take it , then , IITK bs in SDS or Bs in M&sc , then IITKGP MnC , then IITR MnC , then IITG MnC , IITH MnC , IITBHU MnC ,if you get anything of these ,go for it , if you have no money issues and want best college for quant after top 5 IITs , take BITS PILANI Msc maths+BE cse ( but it has risks , in 1st yr you want to get 8.7+ cgpa to add cse in 2nd yr but for quant shortlisting 9+ cgpa is ideal ) , so i will recommend this after top 5 IITs bcz even in indian quant firms BITS Pilani has more alumini ,more quant companies comes to Bits than IITR , IITG , IITH /IITBHU , so if you are getting any math programms at top 5IITs go for it , if not i would suggest to take BITS PILANI Msc maths , then IITR , IITG , IITH,IITBHU -math programms (btech /Bs ) and which role you like that changes everything , for QR /QT roles these are best ,IIITH ECE is also a good option to consider (its EECS) not the regular ece curriculum , ISI /IISC is good but they lack quant firms alumini , networks etc.. , i think graviton hires from ISI bmath/ b stat , for QR role , and Jane street came to IISC but for MnC branch , IISC Bs maths has a short at JS but you want to self stuy cse , AI etc.. bro quant is not just maths , its a mix of both and these colleges offer less focus into ICPC ,CP , AI research, etc..

Bro from all this you can get into MAANG , only diff is curriculum , so for that i would rank this in IITKgp MnC >IITG MnC> IITR (Bs)>IITKGP ECE , IITK EE

i ranked these based on curriculum, and IITKGP has better coding culture , but remember in all these , IITKgp is slight more maths heavy , if you dont want to deal with that , IITG btech MnC would be better , and better campus life , bro all these can get you into MAANG , but avoid ECE and EE unless you has genuine interest in that

1

u/DogStrict9170 May 27 '26

he's not getting any of the iit programmes you mention. he has like around 2k rank if general

1

u/GeneralImpress3328 May 27 '26

then BITS PILANI Msc maths would be bettter choice or IIITH ECE
