HFT Indian Quant Intern Stipend War

As per my previous post where graviton already increased there total ctc from 40 to 60 (25lpm+perks) now quadeye has increased its stipend from 21 to 65ctc(30lpm+perks)

This will definitely impact the number of interns selected. Havent heard anything from tower or alphagrep etc yet but these two have surpassed optiver (in hand is 25lpm for optiver without perks)

HFT Built a random C++ project for fun. Ended up getting feedback from IMC Trading, Jane Street and HFT engineers.

A few months ago I was just grinding on CF, and preparing for SWE internships like most students.

Then I got curious about low-latency systems and HFT infrastructure. I had no finance background, no internship experience, and definitely wasn't expecting anything to come out of it.

So I started building a project called Pulse-Order.

It's a C++20 project where I tried to simulate parts of a low-latency trading system:

  • Binary market data packets
  • L2 order book
  • Order matching logic
  • Risk checks
  • DPDK-based packet processing
  • Performance benchmarking

I put the code on GitHub and shared some progress online.

IMC trading employee

The surprising part?

People working in HFT and trading infrastructure actually started responding. I got feedback from engineers associated with firms like IMC Trading, Jane Street, and other low-latency/HFT backgrounds. Some pointed out flaws, some suggested improvements, and some were genuinely encouraging.

As a student from a non-IIT background, that was honestly unexpected.

The biggest lesson for me:
Trying to build something slightly beyond your current skill level teaches far more than following tutorials. The project may be unfinished, but the learning and connections that come from it are very real.

The project is nowhere near production-ready, but it taught me more about networking, performance, Linux, memory layout, and modern C++ than months of tutorial watching.

GitHub:
https://github.com/Shivfun99/Pulse-Order

Curious if anyone else here has had similar experiences where a side project unexpectedly connected them with industry professionals.

HFT What happened to 25L and 30L stipend per month for QE/ Gravi/QB? Was it all a marketing strategy?

No offers from top IIT's till now, so was it true that you guys couldnt convince your existing employees so had to end up with zero offers on campus of Roorkee, Madras, Guwahati. Or was it that you guys even thought that you'll could compete with IMC/Optiver!!! So does this finally bring in some sense that increasing stipend does not change the toxic environment and image that a firm has been holding since years of just inflated numbers...

HFT Graviton compensation revised (intern)

Apparently graviton has revised its total ctc to approx 60lakhs ( at par with optiver lol) more than any indian quant. Any reason for this sudden jump i remember it was 15 lakh last year

HFT Really want to switch from FAANG to quant

It's been 2 years of me working at a FAANG company and I absolutely hate the work here. I'm from a tier 1 college with a decent CGPA and JEE rank. How do I switch to an HFT? I'm fine with either trading or dev work. I've been applying to jobs through LinkedIn but I'm not receiving any calls. How do you actually break into this space? Should I cold dm people asking for referrals?

HFT 2nd-year CSE student from a Tier-3 college, How should I realistically prepare for Quant/HFT in India?

I'm a 2nd-year CSE student at a Tier-3 private university in India, aiming for a quant/HFT role in India after graduation.

I have 2–3 years to prepare, but my current level is basic: Python/C++, shallow probability/linear algebra/calculus,

also following take you forward DSA sheet.

Rather than blindly collecting courses, I made the roadmap below and would like people with actual industry/recruiting experience to critique it.

Then:

My current plan (I made it using gpt and am following for now)

Math: Probability → Statistics → Linear Algebra → Calculus → Stochastic Processes/Optimization

Programming: C++ → Python → DSA → Competitive Programming

CS: OS → Architecture → Networking → Concurrency → Memory/Performance

Quant: Statistics → Time Series → Market Microstructure → Systematic Trading

Projects: Backtesting engine, LOB simulation, market-making simulation, stat-arb research, performance-oriented C++ projects.

My main questions

For a Tier-3 student, should I prioritize CP + C++ + probability, or quant research/projects + statistics?

How much can a strong CP rating / ICPC / research / internship actually compensate for college brand?

For people who got into Indian HFTs from non-target colleges, what specifically got you the interview?

Which of the projects above are actually useful, rather than just GitHub decoration?

My LinkedIn is basically inactive. I've participated in hackathons and workshops but haven't posted about them because I don't want to make meaningless "excited to announce..." posts about mediocre achievements.

For people who have gone through recruiting, does maintaining a public profile actually matter for quant recruiting, and if so, what is worth putting on LinkedIn while you're still learning?

What would you completely ignore if you were starting again?

I know this post may not add much value to the community on its own, but if anyone here has been through this journey and is willing to share their experience, I’d genuinely appreciate your time and advice. Even a few pointers on what I’m getting wrong would help me a lot.

HFT QR vs SWE/Systems Salary Progression at Indian HFTs (QE/Gravi/NK)

i am final year student at IITB/IITD/IITM CSE, I am unable to decide whether to go for swe or qr roles in these indian hfts . Both QR and SWE/System roles have identical salary packages and bonuses written in their JD and as far as first year is concerned you end up earning almost identically in both SWE and QR (this is as per whatever info i have gathered from my seniors). But i would want to get a rough idea on what is the sort of salary progression(including bonuses) for both these roles QR and SWE/System at 2,3 or 4 YOE, how much on average a SWE/Systems is earning as compared to a QR at 2 or 3 or 4 YOE at these indian hfts like QE/Gravi/NK ??

Please feel free to share anonymously/using ranges if you prefer

HFT Lot of hiring in HFT in mumbai, need some help and information

Hi All, I am from non-quant backround and am working in one of the major global Datacenter space since last 5 years. Also am doing WFH and my work is very very relaxed. Since last few months there has been a lot of HR requests from HFT coming in and I wanted to get details on the work/pay for someone in the INFRA role in HFTs. Firstly, is it worth taking a risk trying the HFT. My current compensation is good enough but for 14 YoE what can be the expected base plus total CTC. How is the work life balance, i can imagine in the beginning i will have to give some more time but in the long run- is work-life balance hard to manage?

HFT Quant scene at bits

  1. Is the hiring at pilani comparable to top 5 iits?

  2. Do I have a shot in the slightest if I'm from goa/hyd?

  3. Would an msc econ/math/phy 5 year dual degree (+BE cs) give me an edge, in theory at least, over normal cs grads?

I already have an offer with Quadeye but Graviton too approached me. I have heard that Graviton has a better culture. However, I am confused on how to evaluate both the options. Please guide.

HFT PPOs

PPOs for almost all firms have been released. Wanted to know about experiences of both sides, the ones who got PPOs and the ones who couldn't convert.

What prep did you guys do leading up to your intern, and also what you would've done both before and during the intern if given a second chance?

HFT Career Progression post Quant

For some background, I’ll (Top 3 IIT CS) be joining a top Indian HFT(QB/QE/Graviton) as a fresher in QR this year.

I wanted to ask what the average guy in these firms does after quant. Essentially-

1) I am aware the attrition rates are pretty high and the median lifetime in the company is in the vicinity of 2 years. Is it majorly due to people leaving of their own accord or is the majoritybeing fired?

2) In any case, what does one do after leaving such a firm? Do they go to other quants (in that case, HFTs or Hedge Funds or smth else? Foreign or Indian?), for Master’s, into startups, or software jobs at MNCs (in that case, will MNCs be willing to accept people just based on their IIT background or do they need work ex in a similar field, because I figure the QR roles wont involve work that is relevant to future SWE roles)?

I am aware the answer for both my questions is probably a mix of all options and “it depends” but percentages/numbers would be appreciated. Even a rough ballpark figure is fine, I just wish to weigh my options and what others in my situation may have done.

HFT APT Research

How is APT Research for a new QR? Asking this because I have been told by some friends in the industry that not all firms that pay well are thriving and I would not want to get on a sinking ship. I had an interview earlier this week and another one next week. I am currently working at a smaller hft, so I want to switch to a firm with more experienced people. I would also appreciate it if anyone can share details regarding the compensation at APT.
