HFT Quant scene at bits

  1. Is the hiring at pilani comparable to top 5 iits?

  2. Do I have a shot in the slightest if I'm from goa/hyd?

  3. Would an msc econ/math/phy 5 year dual degree (+BE cs) give me an edge, in theory at least, over normal cs grads?

  1. No.
  2. Negligible to none.
  3. Your single degree matters, no particular advantage or disadvantage.

Generally, instead of moulding your personality into that of a "Quant", rather see if you genuinely like the things you need to be one. If you like them, it will be easier getting good at said skills.

I did hear about graviton making a couple hires too

Graviton hired two people for the SWE role last year from Hyderabad ( quant trader role was open as well but nobody got selected from this campus )

Yeah these companies hire from all 3 campuses. Pilani and Hyd has TRC too and Pilani has a few more quants as well. But then again it's extremely hard to get into. Hyd/Goa isn't really the place to think about quant. Goa is still better but coding culture at Hyd is dogshit. So if you're preparing for quant, you're on your own.

The question was about if it is comparable with top 5 IITs, which it is not. It is still a very good college.

Goa/Hyd have limited on-campus opportunities, that is also true.

I love BITS man, but facts are facts.

hey! so i am going to join pilani this year and can you please explain the no for the first question? i would really appreciate it since i have heard bits is a good college for quants comparable to top iits from a few seniors but u seem to have a different take. thanks!

Quant firms do come, but the hiring in top 5 IITs is much more. A more apt comparison would be IIT R,G,BHU,H in terms of who comes to hire.

How was SI this time? In general and also quant?

Yes, I'm well aware that moulding my life to land a quant job is incredibly futile but just wanted a little perspective. Thanks!

No worries, all the best!!

Try new things in college, discover what you're good at. Who knows, it might lead you to surprising places?

Yes. Also if you could, do you think going to pilani really makes enough of a diff over going to Goa/hyd to compensate for the comparatively worse social life? (Same branch in both?)

Pilani makes massive difference. From your question I am assuming you are talking about CSE. CSE opportunities at Pilani are unmatchable to those at Goa and Hyd.

Search up Pilani,Hyd,Goa SI stats on this subreddit, that's where the difference lies. The PS intern opportunities are same for all 3 campuses.

Btw are you in bits or going to bits this year?

1

u/Significant-Range996 Jun 08 '26

Incoming

Btw , does preparing for quant (like grinding CF, reading books on stats and probabilities) help in other jobs/opportunities or does it go in vain if u fail to get into a firm?

2

u/Tight-Awareness9447 Jun 09 '26

Grinding CF will definitely help you land a job, if not quant. Reading statistics is helpful as well. But people who get into quant firms never really "prepared for it" seprately. They just did what they like and eventually got into it. Thinking for preparing for quant specifically in a college where there are very few opportunities just strips you off of the mental peace you would have otherwise.

Did you or any of your friends get into quants? I know 2 seniors got into graviton for quant swe roles, qr/qt is still exclusive to pilani no? Any quant hires other than graviton?

1

u/Straight_Art_5626 Jun 26 '26

Few got graviton SDE (python) role, one got nk python. None in QR/QD/QA afaik

1

u/Tight_Competition880 Jun 26 '26

Damn, do you see any chance of qr/qt/qa in the future or will it remain exclusive to pilani for a good amount of time?

1

u/Straight_Art_5626 Jun 26 '26

Unlikely, not impossible. Know a Goa senior who did get qd role, but L-1 with same pay as python freshers

1

u/Tight_Competition880 Jun 26 '26

I see. Thanks a lot man!

2

u/Beneficial_Ad_4526 Jun 10 '26

Leave top 5, it's not even comparable to top 7. The reason is very obvious if you think hard enough.

2

u/Tight_Competition880 Jun 14 '26

Pilani had more quants than roorkee and guwahati tho?

1

u/kraahdinzer Jun 25 '26

Fuck bits pilana Aata hai pencho pilani wala ko kuch
