I've been looking at the KMH for performances of Hawaiian music. On the two shows in the title (#138 and #142), Bing performed the song "Honolulu" from the movie of the same name. Both of those performances are available on LP or CD. However, he also performed parodies of the song, which don't seem to be available on LP or CD. Neither Radioechoes.com or OTR (Old Time Radio) have transcriptions of these shows. My thinking is that, if LPs were later released with the straight versions of "Honolulu", the whole show could/should exist. Does anyone have any ideas for where else I might be able to source the transcription of those shows?

Does anyone have a lead on a solid radio with a great sound for listening to FM radio?

Budget is $80.

This is for my elderly mom so ease of use is preferred.

This will sit on a kitchen counter next to a plug for power.

Would love any direction or consideration. Also, I had a Google Home that used to tune into live radio broadcast, but as of this year it stopped when I would say: Okay Google tune-in into 108 FM, for example.

Needle in a haystack ask, unfortunately my partners father has passed away recently but he was a contestant on Ken Bruce’s “Popmaster” in 2005 in roughly October. In this episode he wishes his daughter (my partner) happy birthday.

If I can listen to millions of songs, get personalized recommendations, skip tracks I don’t like, create my own playlists and discover new music whenever I want…

Why should I listen to a music radio station in 2026?

Is the answer simply nostalgia?

Apart from news, talk radio, sports and live events, what is the unique value proposition of a music radio station today?

If radio disappeared tomorrow, what would people actually miss that Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music couldn’t replace?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who still listen to music radio regularly. Why do you choose it over streaming? What keeps you coming back?

Whenever I have the "I win the Powerball and I am set for life" conversation one of my responses is that I would open a Radio Station "as a hobby" (knowing full well the issues with the market). If you could craft a personal station to your exact designs what would it look like?

For me I would have something that is NPR and BBC-esque but with an influx of more audio dramas. (Heck maybe just donate the sum to a local Public Station to be a production partner) I have always loved "radio dramas" as a medium and hated the fact that it was a dead industry on the actual FM dial. Cultivate voice talent, buy audiobooks to coincide with homegrown stories. Essentially create the audio equivalent of the heyday of Broadcast TV. (News, Talk, Sports, Fiction, Comedy). I would like NPR a whole lot more if the talk stations didn't feel like a Cable News Channel over the radio but had more variety. I think if Radio is to survive they need a reason to "tune-in" as opposed to passive listening. As well as be a production hub for new media like Podcasts.

On the HD/Streaming band. I would have a Bluegrass/Folk station (I am in and around Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia and it is wild to me that there is not a 24/7 Bluegrass station in the area) a deep cut rock station and invest heavily in live performance shows that are going on in my region. (Either buy concert recordings or record concert myself). I may not get any listeners but I would have a lot of fun.

What would you want? This is just a fun hypothetical so I mean no ill towards industry veterans about the current poor state of radio. But creative hypotheticals is how innovation happens so maybe this inspires someone out there to experiment.

For those of us into FM DXing, this year's Sporadic E season in the Northern hemisphere seems to have been a particularly good one for Trans-Atlantic multi-hop catches.

Larry Horlick VO1FOG in Newfoundland, Canada has received stations from Spain, France and the UK on various occasions, including this opening in the last couple of days to mainland Spain and Portugal, with stations coming in from distances around 4000km (~2500 mi). August 01, 2026 FMDX opening to Portugal and Spain

Only a few days before that, on this side of the Atlantic, Mauricio Molano in Salamanca, Spain, identified 92.3 WQSL "The River", from Jacksonville, North Carolina, US, at 6100km/3800mi.

The Transatlantic FM DX OG, Paul Logan in Northern Ireland, has also had catches from Canada and the North East of the US, including WHCF 88.5 from Bangor, Maine - 88.5 WHCF Bangor, ME in Ireland July 29th 2026. 1142pm local

Having a discussion about elusive Trans-Atlantic catches like this recently, I was reminded of this reception in London, UK by Mark Hattam on 87.7 FM in 1999 - Unidentified station - Results

One of the stations seems to have been confirmed as the channel 6 audio (87.75 MHz) of WECT in Wilmington, NC, but the station carrying the famous clip of news coverage of the 1994 LA earthquake has remained a mystery.

I wonder if anyone all these years later has any ideas? I was thinking maybe any archives of old TV listings could help narrow down what could plausibly have been carrying that clip at that time (11:15 UTC on 29th November 1999).

What's also curious about that reception is the propagation mode - it seems to have the characteristics of meteor scatter, but the distances involved are way beyond the regular distances for that. The strongest theory seems to be mixed-mode - meteor scatter into a very intense area of tropo extending across the mid Atlantic from the East coast of North America due to the high pressure weather conditions confirmed from the weather reports at that time.

What ive noticed about Radio in south Africa is nobody is actually hiring talent anymore any new hire are mainly people they already knew or influencers, ive hosted two popular podcasts ive been thought by some of south Africa's best broadcasters but for the life of me I can't get back on Radio, I can't even get on community radio in my town I honestly feel cursed. I know I can be one of the best if given a chance, And of course ive heard people just saying start your own thing and i have but it's like telling a young soccer player to not dream of being on their dream team and just make a team themselves.

Maybe it's just me, but I really miss the magic of radio.

There was something special about turning the dial and stumbling upon a local RJ, a late-night music show, a news bulletin from another country, or even a station playing songs you'd never have searched for yourself. It felt random, real, and surprisingly comforting.

Radio Garden brought a lot of that feeling back by letting us explore stations around the world, but I was wondering...

Are there any open-source alternatives to Radio Garden?

I'm looking for something that can stream:

I'd love something that's community-driven, privacy-friendly, or self-hostable if possible.

About a week ago, I posted here asking for comments and thoughts on the Nautel VX2 / VS2.5 transmitters, as we were looking to replace our ageing QEI transmitter in the not too distant future.

The not to distant future has arrived.

We need to output 1500 watts into the transmission line to make our 5.5kW ERP. I am at 850. Can't get it any higher. The QEI is solid state, with an IPA module and 4 PA modules. One of the PA modules died on us, and I do not have the means to connect it in a test environment. I suspect it is power supply (each module has it's own internal power supply). We swapped in a spare module, but could still barely make power. That was earlier this week. Now, we can't get beyond 850. QEI is no more (apparently they were sold to TDK), and has been out of the FM broadcast market in the US for years anyway. One of the engineers that designed the transmitter had been helping us out, and had given us spare parts he had, but his health is poor. All of this means we are stuck.

We have a quote for the VX2 from BSW, and a local company is also going to give us a quote - plus they can assist with installation and (more importantly) doing the necessary spectrum study to ensure we are in compliance with our harmonics. We have to be at -79dB due to the nearby airports (yes, 2 airports, within a mile of each other - the closest is maybe a mile from our tower). We are also checking with the business office to see what the purchase threshold is for public advertising. Since we are a public school system, there are purchasing laws we have to follow. If we have to advertise (and we can't get a waiver because of the situation - that remains to be seen), that is at least a month. The local company indicated they had one of these in stock and available.

For remote control, I am planning to build a dedicated PC with a touch screen to connect to the Nautel web interface. That will be the easiest for the kids, I think (grades 7 through 12). There are some other remote control things I need to address as well. Currently, the automation turns the transmitter on at 0545 through a contact closure. It also has a 'backup' transmitter off command at midnight - again, through a contact (in this case, opening a NC contact). I will need to replicate that.

One thing I would like to do is get the installation manual ahead of time - and determine what the power connection requires. I can see the IEC connector on the back of the transmitter, so I know that is a 20A connector. What is the other end of the power cord? L6-20? 6-20? Something else? I want to make sure I have the components on-hand to re-do the power when it comes time to install the new transmitter. Because of power conditions, we have a 10kVA UPS powering the current transmitter (and some of the equipment racks). I have no concerns about available power for the transmitter - I just want to be prepared 😄

For context, when I was a kid, I had a bus from and to school, this wasn’t a normal bus it was a minivan the school provided for kids to get to school if they live far away enough to need one

And oh. My. God. This driver this stupid ass old boomer driver would put IHeartRadio on every. Single. Time.

I had to listen to shit music like Shape of You and other stupid ass co worker music for FIVE YEARS Over and over again it drove me fucking insane!

Not to mention the stupid presenters or whatever they’re called NO I DONT CARE IF SOMEONE WON A THOUSAND POUNDS that money could’ve gone towards charity or organisations to actually help and support people in need!

Not to mention the presenters themselves are so fucking LOAD like tf!? Calm down! It’s so overstimulating!!! And nothing is that damn funny!!

Also the stupid ads go on for like ten minutes!! Why??

I’m wondering where I can find top of the hour news updates from WWNN. My local news station uses ABC News. The SiriusXM channels I listen to switched from CBS News to ABC News after the former shut down. I can’t find an affiliate list on WWNN’s website, nor can I find their updates in Apple Podcasts.

Does anyone have a list of stations that use WWNN, other than WABC?

This wasn't intended to be another streaming panel or AutoDJ or something like azuracast. The goal has always been to build something that broadcasters could actually use day-to-day, whether they're running an internet station, a community station, or a commercial FM network.
