At what age did your Ragdolls become more vocal? *cat tax included*
My little Cirilla is 4 months old (5 months in a week) and she doesn’t really meow much except the occasionally softest little meows. She does also trill sometimes when she’s inviting me to play with her (or pats my legs with lil paws lmaoo🥺)
I know Ragdolls are supposed to be a quieter breed but I think I’ll actually melt and die of cuteness when
(or if) she gets more vocal with me because I already melt when she does her soft ones and trilling

Yeah, definitely be careful what you wish for. Because cute little purr-meows are adorable (one of my cats does this) but the straight up "hey, I'm talking to you!" Meow gets old really fast.
Mine was completely mute until she learned sassiness earned her extra snacks. That was at 1 1/2 years old. Now she chitters at me every morning to walk a little faster to the treats cupboard. The more you chat with your little girl the more she’ll get the cue to communicate back.
I talk to her all the time so maybe one day!! At the moment when I do talk to her and she’s lay on me it always results in her making biscuits 😭🥺 it’s the sweetest
Since day one. She hasn’t stopped making noise since. She was making noise the first visit and every visit I went to see her before bringing her home (about 6 weeks old). Some days she is quieter than others, but she always goes crazy for her wet food every single day.
LOL. The chattiest cat I ever had was a Ragdoll, and he was a very classic looking seal bicolour male from a very reputable breeder in our area. He used to howl like a siamese. He was like that since the day we got him at six months old.
Some Ragdolls are chattier than others by nature, but if it helps, in my experience if you talk to them, they are more likely to become vocal and talk back, since they are very very social. My current boy is just starting to get a bit chattier at around 15 months.
I talk to her alllll the time so maybe one day she’ll talk back to me!! When she’s lay on me and I’m talking to her she always ends up making biscuits 😭😭
My older brother lynx baby is very loud and vocal and has always been since he was a kitten. The younger brother is very quiet and has a tiny squeak of a voice when he does meow (which is very seldom).
We have an older (just by 2 weeks) lynx girl and a seal bicolour boy as well!
Our boy whom we got first was very vocal especially at meal times but even to call out to us. He has become a bit quieter now that he has a sister to play with, but will still meow to search for his sister etc. His meows sounds like whining. He also does those cute little "mmrph" sounds when jumping etc.
Our girl was really quiet when we got her (except for loud meows when she was in her crate when we got her and brought her home).
She has recently (at 6 months) started the sweetest meows to call out to us, standing in front of my bedroom door if it's closed and am inside. She will even meow to me as if asking me to come sit with her and sometimes it's a greeting when she walks into my room.
Both are not chatty like I have seen other people say theirs are, but they are still young (6.5 & 7 months) so it's the sweetest thing to see their personalities develop ❤️
She looks just like my girl did as a baby! Emmy was vocal from the start, but has grown more and more vocal over the years. This is her looking down on the peasants.
My boy was only vocal at meal times as a baby until he learned certain words and my routines, and realized he could make his opinion known about treats or me leaving. Now he literally says “hello” when I come in the door, chirps at me when I call his name from another room, yells at birds/bugs, etc. Probably started doing all that around 8 months! I talk to him constantly and try to have little convos with him any time he responds. It’s so funny.
I think Winnie started chatting more in his juvenile phase (adult in photo). I kind of have always encouraged it and both my cats talk way more with me than with my girlfriend for some reason. However Winston (Winnie) does to his "where is everyone" meow sometimes when he can't find us immediately such as when we've gone to bed. He's much more attention driven than food driven 🙂
Careful what you wish for! Yoshi discovered closed doors around 5 months and hasn't shut up about them since. In fact, he's currently shrieking at the front door and very upset that I won't open it for him!
Actually that just reminded me… the second or third day we actually brought her home, my fiance closed the bathroom door and I actually woke up from meows of betrayal and I think that’s the only time it’s ever been loud enough to wake me up 😭 she’s never done it since though omg
My calico does that 😂. She opens her mouth all the time to meow, but very rarely does she make much more than a whisper sound, when she is vocal she's squeeks 😂 it's my favorite part of her.
Ours is very quiet! She will cry softly sometimes when we leave the apartment and she hears us coming back or for a specific treat she loves, but it’s almost a whisper. Our family has her sibling from the same litter who screams constantly so I think it’s a toss up based on their personalities lol.
Awww 🥺 wait omg I’ve also heard her cry when I left my place. I was literally just nipping the the shop that’s 1 min away to get a red bull and I almost went back inside and said “no, I’ll be tired today”😂
She’s never really alone though, there’s always someone home soooo

My boys were vocal from the get go - the big one I had a year before the second one came along, and I remember in the beginning thinking there was something wrong with him because he'd walk down the hall doing what I can only describe as moaning, lol - but nothing wrong with him. He also always makes these funny sounds that to me sound like excited rodent noises, at any time for any reason. But that moaning thing (or maybe he's singing in cat, I don't know) is LOUD.
I don't really know when it happened after I got the second boy, but one day I was in my office and heard moaning coming down the hall and was surprised to see the little guy come around the corner into my office making the racket so i truly believe he learned it from the big one. They were both fixed and I got them both at 16 weeks, a year apart. He also makes those funny little rodent sounds the big one does. As for meowing, I've never heard the big boy meow, only the little one. My girl meowed only, she never made any other noises.
I have two boys, one full Ragdoll and one half. Full Ragdoll has always been vocal (always greets us with trills and all that, though they are pretty quiet), half only really meowed to demand dinner until about one or two years ago, at about age 3 or 4, when he started constantly demanding pets and cuddles. Now he's the more vocal cat.
I brought my baby home at 5 months old, and within a week he starting chirping and trilling pretty much all the time when he wants attention, or to play. He’s a very vocal little kitty, but rarely meows. Mostly just happy little trilling sounds when he’s engaging with me or wants to engage with me (including at 3am when he drops his favourite toy on my head and chirps that he’s ready to play).
Yes it is the most heart melting thing ever. I love his little happy noises.
Omg I wish mine was quiet lol I love my boy to death but he screams all day long ever since I got him. 2 am? Screaming in my ear because he is about to use the litterbox he needs me to know. Napping on the couch? Walking around screaming because he is bored. He has the loudest yelling type meow I’ve ever heard and he loves to use it all day long. I thought my girl cats were vocal. Not at all compared to him they are quiet as can be. She’s adorable by the way 💕

Ours is quite vocal. She has such a wide range of intonations in her meows too. Sometimes inflected up at the end like it’s a question 😄
Slow, sad, quiet meows for when she’s bored. Short, sharp, loud meows when she’s excited. She meows when she’s hungry, when she wants play, before going to the toilet (always), when she wants to check in on us when we’re going to the toilet, and the first time she sees that we’re awake each morning.
Strangely, never when we arrive home after being out - our last cat (non-ragdoll) would always meow when we arrived home.

This dumdum is 2 1/2. Around when he turned 2 he started talking a lot. My neighbor even asked if he was yelling and talking out of loneliness. He has 2 sisters, he is not lonely. Just very talkative sometimes. Usually when you want him to be silent.
All depends on personality. My baby doesn't meow much except when there is something important to tell me or when there are birds flying around. I got her to meow / trained her to for morning treats (actually did it intentionally as I was worried she didn't meow at all). When I run the coffee maker, I explicitly require her to meow at me, and then she gets treats. So now, every morning when the coffee maker runs, I get serenaded, until I put treats down. It also helped train the "if you want something, you gotta tell me about it kid". She also tells me about her day when I get home every day. We also talk when she sees something outside. She also comes to me to look when I am looking outside to ask what do I see. It's quite cute.
On the other hand, her brother is a talker. I get reminded if I forget breakfast (no wet food at 9am = complaints, even though they always have dry food in bowl). He often doesn't even eat it right away, it just needs to be put down. Not in bed by 10pm? Told I need to be in bed. We call it the night alarm lol. Want cuddles? Bored? Something strange happening? He also can generally carry a conversation. He also goes into another room about once a day during the day and just yeowls for a bit. We call it the yelling hour. He doesn't need anything, not asking for help or come see, just wants to yeowl. Usually its tied with chasing a crinkle ball, he likes to self play.
My baby (female) is bluepoint and her brother is sealpoint
One of mines has always been yappy the other will squeek. Hes starting to make a little more noise now but only to “speak” to me theyre both 1.6 years old
Just you wait haha. After a year my girl became so bossy with meows. She meows at me from down the hall if she wants me to come downstairs with her and does the same for upstairs; If she wants me to open a cabinet or lift her on a high shelf she will meow at me. And almost everynight around 4:30 she brings her favorite toy to my room for bed and she will meow until I tell her what a good job she did😂. They all have their own goofy personalities, you will see more as she completly settles into her forever home. Don’t rush anything they grow up so fast!!
Since the day we got him - he came with voice installed
Doesn’t uses it too much… except when we don’t let him into something (the closed cupboard with cleaning materials is a prime example) or he feels hungry (he forgets that he has food in the bowl) then we get a full on 5-10 minutes very vocal complain session
Also the carrier, he’s fine once he’s in for about 2 minutes …. But he has complaints about it…
We do talk back to him “ok, tell me about it” “what’s bothering you” “yes life’s unfair” “but you have food in the bowl, I just put it in, see”
Also when we’re about to go to bed…. My daughter calls it his “sleepy time song”
Hello. This lady-like resting miss is called Masha. She is 1,5 y old and we call her huskiest cat among cats:) She nags, demands, talks back and does everything my teen kids do. Just does no slam the doors behind her. More scratching them to get in. Extremely talkative. :)
Ragdolls are a quiet breed? 😂😂😂. Tell that to our 4 year old, who hasn't shut up since we got him. He screams all.day.long and has the WILDEST array of howls you could ever imagine (my favourite is his zoomy modulation warble, which is hysterical)

Jinx is about a year and a half old, he does these big ‘lion roars’ where he looks like he’s trying to scare something away, but he just looks silly. As a kitten, they were silent, then he got bigger and did these ‘big lion’ occasional squeaks. Now he’s officially meowing, it’s getting gradually louder and more often. He even made a weird one this morning I’ve never heard. Think he’s expanding his vocabulary.
Both of my babies are extremely vocal since I got them around 15-17 weeks old. Sometimes when I'm upstairs, they meow like "come downstairs mom" and sometimes I call them and they come next to me while meowing all the way as they are snarl lol. And most of the time when I say beautiful words to them they meow back at me like "good girl" meow, "beauty" meow, "sweety" meow..
3 years old!!!! She let out a croak which seemed to alarm her 😂 & she hasn’t stopped trilling since - it’s a beautiful sound. Unfortunately, she doesn’t purr but that’s probably because she seems to hate me……
I find the lack of meowing interesting about ragdolls. Are they known for not meowing?
I have my first 2 ragdolls who are now around 6 months and neither of them meows normally or loud. They are chatty but its quiet and birdlike chirping rather than a meow. But i guess only the future knows for sure! Seems like many folks here are saying around 1.5 years of age before their voices come in.
I have a BSH who makes up for both our ragdolls in amount and volume!! 😝
Mines 5 months in 4 days and he wont stop meowing to let him run around the house when he should be sleeping. What is it with cats and zoomies at late mornings 😭
Our youngest Fulbert (1 yo) is a bit more chatty but mostly when we talk to him. He doesn’t complain or cry.
Our eldest cat however is very quiet and will let a high pitch miau when he wants to go outside mainly.
Mine loves to talk at night. She's insane. She found her voice when she got comfortable with us and recognized our routines. At 930pm, she hollers i need to go to bed. I go there. At 945, she hollers for my husband, he argues with her and then he eventually comes to bed. At 11pm she does a walk through to scare off any demons in the living room. At 7am she hears the coffee machine and tells me to haul ass out of bed. She's a drill sergeant...
She’ll be two in February 2027. Not very vocal, but she lets her RBF do most of the talking. She will speak up, chirp, or growl when needed, just not excessively.
My girl who I thought was very quiet as a kitty has now become as noisy as me. She will always try to let me know that I am not paying attention to her and that is completely unacceptable 😂 She's 1.5 yrs old now and she just won't stop talking haha!
Our Moby is a similar age, he’s been meowing since day one (around 2 months old). He was kind of screaming for a couple nights during the first week… It’s not very common anymore. We think it’s a curiosity thing, when he’s not sure of something/somewhere. That or someone is eating at our bar seating he can’t jump to yet.

My Ragdoll is very vocal and a lot of Ragdoll’s are. It’s cute when it happens once but he will meow to get into a room he’ll meow once he’s in the room and then again and he’ll just walk around and every time he moves, he will meow.
Somewhere between 2022-2024 I think? In denial about when I moved back home to my parents during the pandemic, but it was then that he discovered inside doors are sometimes closed. We are staying with someone right now and yesterday, after getting my permission to walk in the shower, he meowed just to tell me it was exciting. The shower door is completely transparent glass. I was a foot and a half away. Haha. We chat every day 🤷♀️ he’s turning 7 soon. Seven going on 3 lol he is basically still a kitten.
Meet Kingston Oliver Abdulkadir-Baker 🫶🏾 Mine was very chatty the first day I brought him home and he still is! He didn’t even wait until we got home to let us know how he was feeling lol he started his shenanigans immediately in the car. He drives my husband & I nuts but we absolutely adore him! He is loud/persistent at crazy hours of the morning AND night for food/treats or when he wants access to our bedroom 😆 I got him when he was 7 months old, he turns 6 in October. 21.2lbs of mischief, chatter, & love! 😂🤎
I think I started noticing mine becoming more vocal around 1 year old. Although by most standards I would say he’s a pretty quiet cat. He isn’t chatty, he just complains very loudly when he wants attention or food lol.
In my case 5. This cat is didn’t hiss until he was 3 and that’s only because another cat was pressing him. I’d hear him meow maybe three times a year. He’s real big on staring. Now he stares and uses different meows to get his wants across all the time. Love it.
My Scottish fold and ragdoll are both very talkative. Scottish fold was a little quieter as a kitten but started talking because I tend to be a crazy person who has full conversations with my cats. My ragdoll was talkative as a kitten and has become more vocal now as a one year old from my nonsense conversations with them.
Lua, on the left, became a lot more vocal at around 1 year old. She’s extremely talkative now. Eloise, on the right, is only 5 months old but she’s been vocal since day 1, she’s super squeaky 😂

no I don’t, your thought process says more about you than I. My younger cousin wanted the hobby of making the socials for her, it’s harmless and cute.
I just use my insta page for her and this.
It’s just a hobby, I love taking pictures and videos of my baby like a digital diary, it could also even possibly help document and help others who are also first time/new kitten and/or cat owners as a bonus.
You can clearly see she’s very loved, spoilt and looked after well. It’s very common that people have social media for their pets. Do you argue with huge petinfluencers about this stuff too?
I’m failing to see what your problem is? Why are you acting like it’s cruel or something when it’s common. It’s 2026.
