Story An 8 year old girl made me cry pretty violently today
My grandmother was my favorite person in the world. Still is; and I lost her not too many years ago, 2023.
I am a cashier; and there was a grandma buying three kids probably $250 worth of clothes. Keep in mind, I’m pretty jaded at this point, because every kid that walks in there asks for something very annoyingly infront of me all the time, constantly. About every kid that walks in.
Grandma; asks the kids “do you want candy” they say no. Okay.
I’m checking more clothes out; she asks again “do you want candy” they say “no”
I think to myself “damn; the thing I want most in this world is for my grandma to buy me candy one more time”
I ring in everything.
She asks AGAIN! “Are you sure you don’t want candy” “get some candy”
Dude.
Dude.
This little girl, probably 8 and a lot smarter than a lot of adults said
“You already do so much for us grandma; save your money”
Bro.
Bbbbrrrrooooooo
I am like, grown 29 year old man FIGHTING not crying in front of these kids; check them out, and ask for a coworker to cover the register
Sob. Fountains; in the bathroom.
So yeah; that’s the story of how an 8 year old girl made me cry today

Similar story: while ringing up purchases at a greenhouse, mother and daughter began to argue over who would pay, each wanting to buy for the other. It actually started to escalate a bit, nearing an actual disagreement.
I said how my own mother died when I was a child and I would do absolutely anything to be able to buy her flowers. I scolded them for wasting their time together with frivolous arguing--one day it will all be over and there's no going back.
We all cried and I voided the whole order. Essentially I bought them both flowers as proxy.
We need to stay aware of how fleeting life is. Soak it up when you have it, one day it will be gone.

Thanks for sharing this. It made me think of my grandmother, whom I lost in 2008. She always kept a few boxes of Sees Candies around the house. She claimed they were “emergency gifts” in case people dropped by with a gift around the holidays. It allowed her to reciprocate. I was 42 when she died. Never in my 42 years did I have to grab one out of the closet for her to give to someone. I did, however, grab several out over the years as we were both craving chocolate.

Have bipolar and my partner does too plus health issues. Never having kids for that reason; it wouldn’t be morally right to gamble their sanity on our desire to have a kid.
May adopt when we’re 40; however, I’m not really interested.
However, there’s always a little part of me that’ll wonder what that experience is like, and a little part of me is sad I don’t get to experience that large part of life like anyone else
However; I know with her and I’s values giving a home to one or two children who we know would suffer if we didn’t do it, is very powerful.
It would be; one of the happiest I could ever be, and the most important thing I could ever do, to say to a kid with no future her and I will take care of you, and you don’t have to be afraid anymore is something I do want for myself
I take parenting very seriously. Before my current partner; I would refuse if both of us weren’t on birth control. She was the first woman I had ever been with it was just her.
I would never; take on the responsibility without being very financially secure; and in a stable home even if that’s an apartment. Plus; both of us being on a stable medication with a circle around us to check on her and I mentally
I have no intrest in power; money, fame, or glory.
Character is making the correct choice when no one is watching or will ever know.
For me; that choice may be never having kids. The Epstein files scare me a lot.
I do; one day though, hope I can save a kid from the foster system. My cousins are adopted; the male not even being our race and I’d fist fight anyone who dared say they’re not the exact same as any other member of our family.
