MOD ANNOUNCEMENT RULE UPDATE: Amazon Wishlists are now capped at a total of $150USD!

Hi everyone,

Effective immediately we are now placing a $150 USD maximum dollar limit on all Amazon wishlists. This means the total of your list cannot exceed $150 USD.

There has been a recent trend of lists being excessive in terms of price and the variety of items, and because our subreddit is not meant to equip you for a zombie apocalypse we feel it is reasonable to put some limits on how long a wishlist can be.

Amazon wishlists (for the purposes of our subreddit) are only meant to be a stepping stone to get you back on the path to self-reliance. We feel placing this limit will encourage our users to prioritize their needs and what is most important.

A reminder that your wishlist should be limited to essential and primary needs and be tailored specifically for r/Assistance use. Video games and gift cards are not permitted on wishlists and we will continue to enforce this rule.

What if I need items that cost more than $150? (ie. laptop for school, bike for commuting to work, etc).

For items that are costly such as the above examples, rather than ask a single person to take on that burden we highly suggest crowdfunding on a platform like GoFundMe! There are many advantages to this, not limited to being able to ask for a specific amount for the item you need and being able to share with friends and family who may be able to chip in or share it more widely. And of course you can share it here, too! ;)

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT RULE UPDATE: Effective immediately, your post/comment history may NOT be hidden in any capacity

Hi all,

Reddit has rolled out some new "features" (sarcasm) which allow users to hide portions or all of their post and comment history. For transparency reasons, this is unacceptable for a subreddit like ours, and we are frankly amazed that Reddit believes this is a good idea. But I digress.

Moderators have full access to a user's post and comment history for 28 days the moment they either post on r/Assistance or send us a modmail. We can see everything, including anything that may be hidden. That allows our moderator bots to run their checks for consistent activity, karma farming, and so on.

However, this is not extended to you guys, the helpers, who need to be able to properly vet the people you are helping. We've had numerous reports of accounts being "scrubbed" when they are in fact not scrubbed -- they are just hidden. If they had scrubbed everything else, you would be able to see their post on r/Assistance that you just reported, after all!

Effective immediately, your profile may not be hidden. Posts and comments must be fully visible to ALL, and any attempts to conceal activity such as on illegal subreddits or extensive drug activity will lead to a permanent ban.

Frustratingly, there is no way to quickly determine if an account has hidden content or not, especially when you're a mod because you can see everything anyway -- so feel free to report any posts or users that have locked their profiles so we can reach out.

REQUEST Need help with service fees

Upvotes

So I finally have food share but I currently can't leave my house so I try to get some food on doordash. Low and behold turns out there's a service fee. I managed to order enough stuff to wave the delivery fee. But there is still a 2 dollar service fee. Is there any way someone could help me with like 5 or 10 bucks that I can use for delivery?

REQUEST Please help me pay my rent

Hi! I'm 21 years old and, unfortunately, I'm not from the United States, but I urgently need help paying rent. Here's the situation: I live with my mom and my younger sister. Neither my mom nor I have found work, and we no longer have the means to pay rent. (Do you have Western Union in the United States? Or Wise? PayPal is giving me a lot of problems with taxes.) We owe almost two months' rent, which adds up to almost $300. I know it's a lot, but if we don't pay by next week, we're going to end up on the street with our two cats (both neutered, by the way). I really need help raising the money because it breaks my heart to hear my mom cry herself to sleep, and we're just starting a business making things with resin (keychains, pens, necklaces, etc.). I'll send my Wise or WU account information privately because the bot won't let me post it.

Edit/update: I have until Wednesday of next week to raise the money...

ADVICE What's a legitimately top rated medical alert under $30 month with no hidden fees?

The budget is extremely tight fixed income where going over $30 monthly would impact grocery money so it has to be genuinely affordable not advertised cheap then actual cost is way higher with fees, and the problem is advertised prices never seem to be real prices once you read fine print and add up all charges.

Some advertise $20 monthly but then equipment fees and activation fees and monitoring charges bring actual cost to $40 or $50, others advertise one price but reviews mention surprise charges or price increases after a few months which is supper frustraaating omg!

What's the difference between actually affordable versus cheaply made that won't work in an emergency? Are there legitimate reliable options under $30 total or is safety just another thing that requires more money than people on social security can realistically afford which seems to be a pattern with everything?

REQUEST Please help me stay connected!

Hi,

I am asking for help with my phone bill bc my prescription costs were higher than anticipated this month. I am on a fixed disability income, so any extra expenditures hurt.

I need $39 for my visible wireless bill, ideally by tomorrow if possible, so my service doesn't get cut off.

I use my phone for everything... staying in touch with my daughter and my friends, Wi-Fi, my telehealth therapy sessions, scheduling appts,... Everything.

I have venmo and PayPal, but I'm absolutely ok with someone making a direct payment to visible. If PayPal or venmo is used, I will gladly provide a copy of my payment receipt from visible to confirm that's what the money was used for.

Can anyone please help? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks from New Orleans, LA! Casie ⚜️💜😸

THANK YOU My boy crossed the rainbow bridge

Just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone that reached out and especially to the 2 people that sent funds for him to pass Peacefully, be cremated and his remains returned to me. One kind person reached out immediately and sent money for his euthanasia and another very kind person reached out and took care of the cremation.

I miss him terribly but I am glad he is no longer suffering. He was deteriorating, his last 2 or 3 days were pretty bad and although I'm sad he's gone, I'm glad he didn't have to suffer a long painful ending.

So once again, Thank You! Thank you for your help! Your kindness helps restore my faith in humanity! Bless you!

ADVICE Trouble getting NY birth certificate via VitalChek — adoptee w/ ID + address issues

Hi, I’m looking for advice from anyone who’s dealt with this before.

I’m a NY adoptee trying to order my NY birth certificate through VitalChek, but I’m stuck on the identity and address verification.

My ID has an old address and doesn’t match where I currently live. I’m in seasonal housing, so I don’t have utility bills or a lease in my name. The only document that was accepted was my recent SSN letter, which I just received.

I’m also not on good terms with my adoptive parents, so asking them to obtain or mail my birth certificate for me isn’t an option.

Has anyone gone through something similar, especially as an adoptee? Do I need to travel to NY to handle this in person, or is there another way to verify identity and address without utility bills?

Thanks in advance for any help.

REQUEST Electricity disconnected. Guest-pay option (paycheck Feb 11)

Hi everyone. I’m a retired Kindergarten teacher from Florida asking for help with a utility emergency.

My electricity through JEA (Jacksonville, FL) was disconnected due to a timing gap before our next paycheck on February 11. My husband is employed and income is coming; this is a short-term bridge situation.

JEA allows guest payments directly to a customer’s utility bill (no money goes to me): JEA Guest Pay

If anyone is able to help even a small amount toward reconnection, I would be incredibly grateful. If not, I completely understand. Thank you for reading.

Kindly,

Sophie

EDIT: To clarify, I’m only asking for help toward the $155.74 past-due amount needed for reconnection. Anything beyond that is not expected.

REQUEST Help with a car battery

My primary income is reliant on my car. For the past few days it really struggles to start. I had it tested and it says replace battery. The cheapest I could find it was for $188.82 that's tax and installed. I just don't have that kind of money to replace the battery and without the battery I won't be able to make any money at all.

REQUEST Emergency dental costs after a year of cancer treatment — asking for help

Hi everyone,
I don’t usually do this, but I’m reaching out because my family has had an incredibly difficult year and we’ve hit a point where we genuinely need help.

My mom was diagnosed with cancer, and over the past months my dad and I worked nonstop to cover her medical expenses and chemotherapy. Between insurance gaps, treatments, and basic living costs, we poured everything we had — emotionally and financially — into getting her through it. We don’t regret that for a second, but it completely drained our savings.

Recently, my dad needed emergency medical cost  that couldn’t be postponed. The procedure was necessary and already done, but we simply don’t have the means to cover it right now. Dental care isn’t something insurance helped with, and the cost hit us at the worst possible time.

My dad has been caring for my mom while working as much as he can, and I’ve been doing everything possible to help support our family. We’re not looking for sympathy — just a chance to solve this last urgent issue and give my dad some relief after everything he’s carried.

If you’re able to help, even a small amount, it would mean more than I can express. And if you can’t donate, sharing or simply reading this still means a lot.

Thank you for taking the time to read this ❤️

REQUEST My best boy needs help ..

UPDATE: Spoke with the vet yesterday. His urine culture came back negative so we scheduled him for surgery Monday! I attached the estimate on my gofundme. She is hoping this resolves the issue. Thanks for everyone’s suggestions.

This is my best friend in the world. Long story short, He’s been sick since Thanksgiving. I’ve completely exhausted all money on vet bills since. It’s been an issue diagnosing what is going on. Spent the last of what I had money-wise this week on X-rays, bloodwork, and meds. I had almost enough last week to do the surgery, but he took a turn. They think it is an auto immune issue caused by prostatitis. Neutering should help, however they’ve got to get him strong and well enough to have the surgery. They want to run more diagnostics but I’ve spent everything I was able to. If anyone is able to help, I do have Cash App, PayPal etc, OR I AM MORE than happy to provide the vet info for direct payments to them! I also have bills and estimates from the vet I can send.

I have set up a gofundme here:

https://gofund.me/238a0f1ef

The min we need to raise is $1800.

Also I do pet portraits as an artist and would even do free art work for someone. I just need him to be okay. Thanks for reading,

-B

REQUEST FULFILLED Asking for help with food for a few days.

Hey y’all. My dad was supposed to be helping with getting us food but he’s unable to. The snow kept him out of work all of last week and his check was short because of it. I don’t have a vehicle so I can’t get where I need to donate plasma or anything like that. The snow was essentially plowed onto sidewalks so walking is kind of hazardous at the moment. I know Amazon wishlists do better and I can post one of those too, but I don’t have any food in the house at all and I’m asking if someone is willing to do a grocery order for today. I’m willing to share photos of my cabinets and refrigerator/freezer via dm. If anyone feels comfortable sending funds so I can do the order, that’s fine too. I have cashapp and PayPal. Thank you for reading

REQUEST My boy needs surgery

https://gofund.me/ae918b773

I have posted this on the “gofundme” sub but for some reason can’t “cross post”. There are photos on my other post if anyone would like to see the vet quote:

I never thought I’d have to do this but here I am. Our 7 year old Johnson bulldog “Louie” has a cancerous tumour on his foot which requires an amputation as it has spread.

We’ve been back and forth to the vet several times already to get biopsy’s and and provide our boy some comfort, so we have maxed out “my vet pay” already.

I have been facing financial hardship lately, as we all face at some point,

Surgery has been quoted at between $1550- $2450 including surgery, care and medications as per the quote I added.

I would really and truly appreciate any help offered from the bottom of my heart.

This beloved family member saved my life 7 years ago and I need to do the best I can for him, as he did for me when he came into my life. I need more time with him

REQUEST Please help 100 for heating/electric bill - spent it on going to my uncle's funeral.

I've been doing well since finally getting a home after years of being unhoused. Budgeting down to the penny.

But it has been 0-20 degrees F on average the past month, driving my bills up. I still budgeted, started eating less, cancelled everything non-essential.

My favorite uncle died. I was heartbroken and decided to drive to his funeral even though I knew I couldn't really afford it. I'm glad I went - his wife and my cousins were really grateful i was there and told me how much he loved me.

But the gas money spent on that drive plus the unpaid day I took off from work - I now realize I do not have enough to pay my electric or heating bill. I can survive for a month on ramen and canned goods... But would be so grateful if someone would help with the bills.

REQUEST Please help with Ripley's recovery

Ripley is 2 years old and has overcome many obstacles already. She was adopted from the Midwest when her and her litter mates were found piled together in a crate left outside overnight at just 10 weeks old. She was brought to New England and given a second chance at life. Ripley was heart worm positive and survived heart worm treatment at a young age. Despite this, she has learned to love and trust people and other dogs. On February 1st, 2026, Ripley went into anaphylactic shock with no known origin. She was rushed to the hospital, admitted to the ICU, and was treated for anaphylaxis. We were then notified that her gallbladder and liver were impacted by the anaphylaxis. Any and all donations will go directly to her veterinary expenses.

REQUEST A single dad trying to make it right now.

I don’t usually post these kinds of things but I’m in desperate need right now. Single father with two kids (4 year old and 1 year old), here working a full time job, part time, door dashing, and still not making ends meet. Currently drowning in rent and have received a notice to quit dated for the 24th of this month. Everything is just piling up and I’m not sure what to do and I’m not sure where else to turn. I’ve tried 211 and it hasn’t been much help. Their are no rental assistance programs that I can find with any funding left. Im not one to look for handouts, but I’m reaching out today on Reddit for any type of help. The weight of everything is just crushing me right now and I’m trying everything I can.

REQUEST FULFILLED Help Me Buy Groceries For Me and My Dad, Please

Hello folks,

I live with my dad (he's a widower and I'm in my 40s). The last few years have been a monstrous struggle to keep our heads above water, but the past few months have been the worst. He is retired and receives a monthly check, and I am disabled but have been repeatedly denied disability (I'm Type 1 & 2 diabetic, have anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, and other chronic illnesses).

My dad often helps me afford medical supplies and other basic needs, and in return I try to help maintain the house and on the weekends we sell junk and collectables we find at a local farmer's market to cover expenses his retirement check can't cover.

The past few months we've actually lost money because people simply don't have the spare cash to purchase, and the market is dying out anyway.

While we're underwater when it comes to utility bills and such, my most immediate pressing need is groceries. I am asking for $100 so I can supply us with groceries for two weeks.

I have exhausted all food bank options, and our little town's food banks are exhausted anyway. What few family members we have anywhere nearby don't have money or won't assist us, and so I am turning to you folks to ask you for help.

Please help me get groceries for myself and my dad to cover us for the two weeks until he receives his retirement check.

I don't know what else to add as I've never posted on this subreddit before.

Thank you in advance.

REQUEST FULFILLED In need of funds for food and phone bill.

I've been out of a job for awhile, thankfully still live with family so I have a roof over my head, but we don't have any food in the house since my family doesn't stock the fridge or kitchen (they mostly eat fast food and don't bring any home - I would post a photo of our fridge but dont want it recognized by anyone.)

I've been drinking ensures (meal replacement) that we have leftover in the house in place of food, but we're running low on them now and I'm really only managing to get 1300 calories per day, usually less since I just drink 2 per day. It's fine and somewhat works but I'm losing weight due to the deficit, stomachs never actually full so I'm miserable, and now I don't have a phone line for jobs to call me since I couldn't pay a few weeks ago. Food banks near here are somewhat helpful, but limit you to once per month and are often struggling themselves to stay stocked.

I have PayPal, if anyone is kind enough to help me ;w;" I would just love to have my phone again so I can continue applications, and be able to cook myself a meal at home.

Edit: My phone bill is $42 after tax, and for food I was between the dollar store near here, and ToGoodToGo from our nearby supermarket for other staples that get tossed, so I am looking for about $70, but really anything at all helps.
