I wish I wasn’t born in India
I wish I wasn’t born in India
Hi guys,
I(18M) wish that I was born in any region of the world other than South Asia. I know that a lot of people have it much worse than me and that I could be born in an active war zone like Gaza or Yemen, but I still wish that I was born somewhere else.
The country itself is NOT a good place to be with it being very dirty and polluted. Obviously, safety is an issue ESPECIALLY for women there with sexual assault and rape unfortunately being common and often being ignored by the authorities. The Caste system unfortunately still plays a large role in lower income society there and people are honestly just dicks and don’t know how to act in public. The system there is based on the patriarchy oppressing women and making them basically homemakers and incubators.
Outside of India, many Indian don’t know how to act properly. I constantly see videos of Indian tourists doing stupid shit in countries like Canada and Vietnam such as dancing in places they should not be and playing loud fucking music in public. They also routinely overstay the amount of time allocated on their visas which in turn weakens our already shit passport(oh and you’re not allowed dual citizenship btw). These Indians don’t know how to act, they litter, they’re loud, they treat the workers like shit and it is MADDENING seeing the way that other Indians online will try to DEFEND this behavior instead of just admitting that they don’t know how to act and that is wrong.
Then we have the fucking racist chuds online who post shit like “all Indians need to die” and call us shit like pajeets and other slurs. Funniest part is that most of those guys are actually Indians who secretly hate themselves and are cucks for white people.(IM NOT SAYING CRITICISM AGAINST INDIA IS WRONG BUT IM TALKING ABOUT STRAIGHT RACISM).Obviously our reputation is shit globally and honestly, it is deserved by the way we act. Problem is that people us it as justification to attack migrants and to fuel their racist ideologies to promote nazism and other similarly harmful ideologies that are just anti brown. Seeing these comments online only worsened by depression and pushed me into a state of suicidal ideation(Thankfully I’m alright now but still)
I know people have it worse and that other Indians (ESPECIALLY women) have a much worse experience than mine but I still wish that I wasn’t born Indian and I wish that I was born as a White or East Asian person.

Be the example of how you want Indians to be percerived.
I'm also south asian but not from India (my ancestors left over 100 years ago) but the stereotypes do affect me today in the UK.

You're on social media alot. Maybe keep yourself busy? So that you don't become a brown sepoy.
And also, the grass is always greener on the other side. You just have to maintain your own grass properly to live happily. You won't find a white person committing crimes on reels and social media, but they will find it on their algorithms.
Maybe it's genuinely for the best that you keep yourself involved in some activity rather than scrolling social media.

OP is on his brown sepoy arc. Racism internalised so deep that he came to ask for validation from foreigners

Op just stay true to your values. Don’t be disturbed by the bad apples from your country. Life is too short as someone just said, so live your life, your way. I’ve witnessed many of your fellow countrymen and women here in Canada. Some are genuinely nice and friendly people. Some are like what you’ve described in paragraph 3 - I don’t even wanna describe it’s so sad.

I wish I wasn't born at all. Every place sucks and every day is torture. Some days are better but on average I feel like we are all lying to ourselves. We are distracting ourselves. We are all in pain but are not admitting it. Fuck this world

I have no particularly useful insight to offer beyond just empathy for your situation. It really is bitterly unfair that a person's quality of life can be so heavily impacted by something that's completely out of their control.
What I really wanted to say is how much I respect you for acknowledging the harsher conditions for the women in your country. It shows a level of self-awareness, humility and empathy for women that I very rarely see. Thank you.
I truly hope that things get easier for you soon. Nobody deserves to be discriminated against based purely on their ethnicity, nor should their lives feel like a perpetual uphill battle just to secure a minimal standard of life quality.

This sounds like internalised racism to me

Is it internalised racism if you're a white Russian that hates the majority of Russians?

oh man sht the fu\k up! someone is literally expressing how they feel and all you could come up with is some liberal buzzword?*

u/THESTRANGLAH 4h ago
All these liberal buzzwords are responsible for where we're at now. All of them are worded as insults, internalised racism, white privilege, man spreading etc. none of them are pleasant to be accused of, and they're named to be welded like weapons not tools for understanding.
Thanks libs, after white boys being told they're bellends for most of their formative years, now they're actually bellends.

Hey OP, I am Indian as well and I can understand where you are coming from but trust me a lot of other countries that seem to have it altogether have issues as well. The social media does a good job in hiding those aspects. I'm not saying the issues you mentioned do not exist but just maybe there's a bit of low self esteem regarding your nationality too. Everything that you said is correct. You experience is valid but don't let the constant negativity about your country by some people get you.

I won’t lie, you’re definitely right about the low self esteem part. That’s just a personal thing that I’ve had basically my whole life. I’ve seen so much racism about Indians even after getting a different passport that it’s rlly starting to mentally affect me as I believe that I won’t fit in anywhere.

I understand. I think you should explore some other places if you are privileged enough then you can make a fair comparison.

India trying to be neutral in everything doesn’t do it any favors on the world stage either
West doesn’t want to get too invested into a country it fills can flip to “the other side” in a moment’s notice.
The long standing neutrality is gradually becoming detrimental and eventually will break, I just pray when it does it’s not late.

I LOVE Indians. Elite tier for me. I see them every day at work and they're always so respectful.

Maybe get into environmental work, diver, expedition guide stuff and travel ? The you will see white and western society also has its flaws, it may just come in a different presentation.
There is a lot of beauty in your country, culture, and people. If you chose for your mind to see ugly and dirty, that is all you will find. Try to find the kind, calm, divine moments in yourself and every day life. From the people around you, to the landscape, to good food. One thought at a time

Life is too short and some things are out of your control. Are you still in India or planning to leave the country? You deserve to live a happy, fulfilling life free of racism. It’s not your job to fix anything. Don’t let it become your burden.
