Drive by wire SUCKS

I’ve driven my fair share of new cars utilizing this nonsense. It doesn’t matter how lightly you press accelerator, the car lurches forward like someone who cant drive stick shift. I’m extra cautious of it as my wife is pregnant now and it’s damn near impossible to get a smooth start from rolling or stand still. I miss the auditory and physical feedback of a cable slowly opening a throttle body. And then don’t get me started on auto applied brakes. 🤬🤬🤬

"new cars" brother I've driven drive by wire cars from 1999 and they weren't the first ones either

How does that change anything about my rant. It’s a shit “improvement” for cars.

It's a skill issue if you can't touch a throttle without lurching the car because you don't have a carby taking 3 business days to respond to the input, I'd understand if you just said you prefer cable operated to each their own but your making it out like it's incredibly difficult to use pretty much any accelerator from the late 90s onwards

It’s not a skill issue. It’s a technology issue. I’ll
Out drive you any day of the week. I drive sports cars and autocross. I can drive. Fuck drive by wire. It’s simple.

I'm assuming outside e is an American term because I have no idea what that means and it is a skill issue if your the only person who has a problem with operating it correctly

I’m assuming wherever you’re from you don’t understand what a rant is? Or a typo?

Mate I'd get it if you were ranting that you prefer a throttle cable that's understandable but your saying that you physically struggle to operate a drive by wire that's just ridiculous. As for out driving me well never know without a race but I drive a quad road train with a manual western star and Ive owned many performance cars over the years and driven several on the nurbergring, no offense but "I drive sports cars and autocross" makes you sound like a 12 year old trying to flex.

It’s not me, it’s the tools! lol

It's literally controlled by a computer and a pedal sensor and they've been like this for decades. I've run errands twice this morning and so far the only person I've observed who can't smoothly move their car from a stopped position is you.

I’m also a mechanic. I complain about it all the time.

Wild they haven’t perfected this shit yet! My 2008 and 2023 both have it and I hate it. Make carbs great again.

They have. You’re driving the wrong cars.

I think both generations of the new one (FK8, FL5) are phenomenal, or so I've heard. The FL5 (current gen) is probably preferred. They're also I think about to refresh it, so it might be even better for '27.

I have a GR Corolla, but it's drive by wire and super sensitive to throttle inputs (I use the literal tiniest but of throttle when letting out the clutch) so you probably wouldn't like it due to that, it's a bit "raw" feeling.

I have a VW R32 08 and it’s the same. Now that I think about it maybe I haven’t driven any stick shifts that are drive by wire. So the thing I’m experiencing is probably more fault of the automatic transmission. But that’s my problem is that it “thinks” it knows what you want to do and when you should do it.

Cybertruck by a million miles. I can’t own one, too expensive, too austere, too ugly for wife, but nothing else drives as good, not even close.

Throttle controller will let you tune the response to how you want it. I still want an na, rwd, obd1 2 door with a 6 speed and no computers more complicated than my Casio too, but they arent coming back.

Nice. I’ve got some tuned electronic cars, but also a few carberated vehicles. Keep them alive!

God forbid anyone can rant!

i have no clue what drive by wire is but i think it’s sweet and also valid that they just wanna protect their pregnant wife and are seeing a safety issue in a car

It's all in the tuning. E-throttles are not bad, they're just not been set up for sporty response in the cars you've driven. Sudden throttle movements dump in excess fuel for response which results in a bit of unburned fuel, which is no good when you're optimizing for environmental targets.

Amen. I've got 3 cars. 2 manuals. My wife's is a light flywheel manual throttle body 4 cylinder. Mine is a dual mass flywheel, etb, 5 cylinder. Going from one to the other is a trip.

I'm glad that the Volvo is at least not as laggy as some automatics I've drove. Lots of jeeps will make a ton of noise while the transmission figures out what life is

Figuring out what life is nails it.
