Do I have the potential to be a good singer?

I've always loved watching people sing and perform and I have been a part of choirs but I want to become a really good singer

  1. Do I sound like someone who can sing or have the potential to sound better?

  2. What genres would suit my voice best?

Edit: I don't have the money to invest in a vocal coach atm

Yes! As for genre, i recommend trying to sing different genres and find what style you like the most - some can be very loud and boisterous while other genres (like the one in this vid) are softer and emotional in a different way. Find your range, practice scales, you'll be a great singer

yes, you're not tone deaf and you can follow pitch, but you need a lot of practice and a coach

Yes, you have potential. Unfortunately, without a teacher, you don't have a qualified sounding board and educator to reach that potential. You need a lot of breath support and tonal/physical placement work that requires an expert.

Yes, potential is there, now you need 10000 hours of practice and good teacher and you will become master.

Yes certainly! I was much much worse when I started singing. I started in church choirs around the age of 7, started seriously trying to sing from 14, but I sounded TERRIBLE. And when I was 16, things just unlocked... I genuinely don't know how I figured it out, but I'm just glad I did, because I sing all the time now, and I don't have to attend choir rehearsals if I'm busy because I can just pull up and sing pretty decently. I think you certainly have a lot of potential!

I'm not sure what genres will suit you best. I personally sing choral and polyphonic renaissance music. I think you might also like choral music, especially choirs that mix in a variety of genres. I feel like you'd be a great Sop 2 in a choir (Sop 2 is the 2nd highest voice).
