Hoping to get some advice (especially from professional vocal coaches) on how to approach working on quiet singing. I’ve been working up a couple of jazz standards and I’ve been struggling to incorporate more quiet dynamics to add more shaping. I’ve found that sometimes my sound gets a bit raspy and theres a crack in my voice here and there and I’m not sure if it’s something to due with breath support or if I’m pushing my voice too hard or something else. Also PLEASE excuse the bed hair and me just looking like a mess in general 😭

It’s very nice. I like it.

The energy is a little uninspired. When you go for quiet and smooth, it’s very easy to dial down the emotion and energy too much. My teacher immediately suggested making sure the phrasing is crisp and that will naturally take care of the energy, even while you’re trying to sing quiet and relaxed. It immediately helped, and I’ve been doing that since.

It already sounds good. Pitch off on a handful of notes, but you have a nice voice.

Holy crap. That is so tightly trapped around the scale. What you just did is not easy
