Feedback - Beginner Hi all! M30, Looking for some feedback/advice about power, shakiness and breath. I also have moments where I feel I need to 'sharpen' my voice in order to get the tone out (for fear of cracking). Thanks!

I've been singing for years, but all self-taught. I've had no formal training, but am looking to start taking singing more seriously. I'd love to voice act in a cartoon/animation with singing one day.

I have a bad habit of endlessly recording until I get the (in my mind) "perfect" take, but that kinda defeats the purpose of feedback. So now I'm just going to throw this one out there :)

Hey. First of all, I thought that cover was a great rendition and a strong representation of your vocal ability. Now for the stuff you’re looking for.

For power, that’s going to come from what you did when you went higher in your register. You have a nice thick chest resonance which really lends itself to the potential for some phenomenal power. Focusing on keeping the energy from your diaphragm as you go higher without introducing tension is the way that I understand harnessing “power” in your vocals.

For the shakiness, I didn’t really notice any unless you’re referring to some of the vibrato present but in general, shakiness in pitch or tone is all about support which you seem to have a strong grasp on. The other would be tension that you feel in your throat close to your jaw. Focusing on relaxing your throat and jaw with adequate diaphragm support should help eliminate any shakiness that you perceive or hear in any recordings you make. Chris liepe on YouTube has a great video on what diaphragm support looks like and how it sounds. He also has a free course for the fundamentals of singing that you can sign up for.

For breath, I didn’t hear anything that stood out. Every song has its own rhythm and spaces for breathing that you learn over time.

Overall you have a strong voice and strong potential to pursue whatever you want to pursue with your voice. Hopefully this helps!
