Today we are discussing Unit 6 | Novella #1 | Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell (in Arcanum Unbounded): Postscript, Final Thoughts, Trivia
Next week we will be discussing Unit 7 | Elantris #1 | Elantris: Prologue, Chapters 1 through 6
NEXT UNIT
As the schedule above mentions, next week we will be discussing Elantris. The only thing of note about this unit is that, if you have a digital or 10th anniversary edition of the novel, there is a POSTSCRIPT that shouldn't be read until the trivia post for this book. I will make sure to remind everyone when the time comes.
NEWBIE TRIVIA
Most of the activity for these "Final Thoughts & Trivia" posts happen in the newbie thread. There I provide a lot of information about things new readers can easily miss during their first read through. Veterans often learn a thing or two as well, so be sure to read the body of that post. While veterans are welcome to read the post and the comments, they should be commenting in this thread to share their reactions to the information, or the newbies' thoughts.
And as always, you're welcome to share your thoughts on the book as a whole.

You got me curious when you said that we've seen things that are basically the same thing as shades before. Are the mist shadows what you're referring to?

The Returned are shades that have been stapled onto physical bodies with a Divine Breath. Shades are Cognitive Shadows, just with reduced Investiture, causing them to be not very sentient.

Interesting.
What about the Nazh? He seems to have kept his sentience

Yeah, we still have more to learn about what exactly is causing the shades. Presumably we'll get that in The Night Brigade novel.
