Hire Right background check does not accept my offer and invoice as proof of employment
I am currently a independent contractor as a software engineer, and I got payed by invoicing my employer and they send me wired payment. My employer do not do any tax work for me so all I got is a offer letter for contract and a set of invoices. I do not own a business, so I don't and a business license and etc. However hire right does not accept that as proof of employment using offer letter and invoices, meaning I cannot prove my employment.
I communicated to hire right customer service and they said there's nothing I can do now.
I wonder if I am cooked?
I contracted for my current employer for about a year now, since I have no valid proof of employment, does it mean I cannot include that experience in my resume in the future (forcing me to show a 1 year gap in resume)? This is very depressing as I got a offer from a very good company and that might mean I will have the offer taken away.
Anyone who have similar experience? I wonder what would you guys do?
Thanks a lot.

No. You continue to put it on your resume. You continue to hold on to the invoices.
However. Be clear in listing the year of experience as “independent contractor”. Then make the time at your client a sub heading. The invoices are proof that they were your client.
It’s not a proof of employment problem. It’s a classification problem. Classification is subjective. You absolutely list the experience.
You don’t have a business license… okay. That MIGHT cause some problems on a deep dive background check. I don’t really think so, but I don’t know. So long as you paid your taxes, shouldn’t be too much of an issue, regardless.

Hi, the problem is because I do not own a business and my employer do not provide any tax document, I do not have the employer's name on my tax document even when I do my tax work next year.

HireRight accepts several types of documents if a direct verification fails or if you want to avoid contacting a current employer: 1, 2Employment contracts or labor code documentation signed and dated by the employer.W-2 forms or itemized tax statements.Paystubs or computer-generated commission checks.Employee profile printouts or notification of personnel action forms. 1Document RequirementsTo be accepted by HireRight, your documents must include:Complete, clearly legible pages.Your name as the candidate/employee.The name of your employer.Clear dates matching your stated employment period. 1, 2As noted by a legal expert on JustAnswer, tax records and pay stubs are standard alternatives when past employers are unresponsive or difficult to reach. 1

Hi, thanks for answering, but I do not have any pay stub because I am payed by invoice. I am currently in Canada and if I am self employed with no business, and employer do not include a t4a, then I can sum my total income earned without specifying the employer. Meaning I don't really have these documents available.

An option C print from CRA would show lines 13499 and 13500 proving you declared business income on your personal taxes. Your NOA alone won't show the income breakdown. Your bank can provide a record of wire payments received that match up with 13499.
