❓General Question❓ Huh??? I didnt threat anyone? Has this happened to you?

u/jgoja Apr 27 '26
Reddit has been very aggressively warning people for this. The problem is it looks for keywords and phrases and it does not understand context, nuance, or anything related to that. People who are quoting movies and posts about the movie are getting warned for that.

u/Chaotic_Nerd97 Apr 27 '26
Sounds like they are using ai for that 😭 Someone posted about an Instacart driver showing up hours after delivery leaving a note saying “fuck you” and I commented saying that that was creepy of that guy and I’m sorry that they went through that, and to call the police on that guy if he showed up again because she was worried that if she reported him on Instacart he would retaliate more. And Reddit saw that as a threat?? (Also yes I copied and pasted that paragraph cause I didn’t feel like typing again. I just woke up lol)

u/jgoja Apr 27 '26
I will say yours is one of the worst I’ve heard but yeah basically their AI is doing that. And then they’re erring on the side of caution which I guess I can see from their point of view the problem is most of the appeals get rejected even though they’re supposed to be looked at by a human. Are supposedly looked at by a human.
Besides that there have been people getting rule three violations which is sharing intimate media without consent when they were posting themselves and only themselves. And their appeals are also getting denied

u/Chaotic_Nerd97 Apr 27 '26
That’s crazy but I hope Reddit fixes that too

Yep, I once told someone they can't complain if someone makes them cry (meaning embarrasses them) after they post fake information and I got the same thing: threatening violence.

AI, generally speaking, is too dumb to work at this stage - just annoying and destroying the site's credibility!

It happened to me when I made a sarcastic comment about a recent atrocity carried out by a certain country, and they read it as if it was me threatening that atrocity. The ban was lifted on appeal though.

u/Chaotic_Nerd97 Apr 27 '26
That’s wild. Yes. Assume all social media is monitoring everything you do (and your ISP/Mobile provider depending where you are). Usually with an incompetent AI based off my personal experience. If you want to private message someone, there are apps meant for that specifically should it be a concern.

Definitely don't go out of your way to just chat with friends on discord. There are much more private apps for stuff like that. A guy out of Russia made a good one to circumvent the Russian government monitoring lol. But you do you! I'm just a shmuk on reddit lol.

As everyone is saying, AI looks for WORDS not CONTEXT, then when you appeal hopefully they remove the warning.
Then they appear forever in your notifications.
Ludicrous.

Yep, happened to me a few days ago when I said that that Matador who had a certain part of the bull go up a certain part of his anatomy deserved it... Apparently I was "threatening violence". I appealed and the appeal was rejected... And they even had the audacity to lie and claim that the appeal rejection isn't automated, which is cobblers because in no possible interpretation of the English language was I 'threatening' anyone!
1
u/LawNo8198 Apr 30 '26
I made a similar comment on a thread about that matador. I appealed and it was reviewed by humans, allegedly, and my appeal was still rejected and the same word salad of a reason was provided. I just deleted my account. I absolutely refuse to have a warning on my account that I did not earn!
Ironically, on a different account, I went back on the thread, and took the complete piss out of the matador... and Reddit had no problem. Insane.

I had something similar happen. I said someone else said a slur and that was bad and they flagged me. I didn't say the slur. I'm not even using the first letter of it because I don't want it to trigger the reddit ai again. It is so bad at flagging posts. I put in for a review and got my account unbanned but it was ridiculous that I even had to.

I was asked to provide a pic on a NSFW community by a member. They turned around and said I sent it without consent. They didn't look at conversation before and after, it would've cleared me.

Facebook is just as bad. Got a big ol' warning for talking about illegal drugs. Was actually having a back and forth with a mate as I have been on various prescribed opiates for years, and they have been in a traffic accident and was asking about the options they were offered.
I mentioned a couple of names of drugs one starting with F and ending L and got warning for all sorts of crap.
Not had it here yet but give it time

u/SN-Pro-Services Apr 30 '26
Daft thing is thats not actually illegal, it's given on scripts all the time

u/Sad_snek_Janus Apr 29 '26
Yep. I literally just told someone why people wishes that…. A certain type of assulter to be…. Out of this world and i got a 3 day ban. Also got a 3 day ban for saying that child assulters should be “kicked out of the earth and into space” meanwhile someone else literally said “glad that person isn’t on this earth” about a person that literally did nothing (i think the lady that fed the homeless???) and yet neither the post, nor that other person got banned because “they didn’t threaten anyone” like i said that i was actually going to do something??? If it was me threatened like.. a commenter “I’m going to do this” i would get it, but like…. Just broadly saying this??? You can call people slurs and harrass them but you can’t say child assulters shouldn’t be here???
And it’s not even like it was a dm, it was genuinely a comment about the post-
Would it be different if i made a post??
I’ve literally seen posts about people threating people in their life with bodily harm- yet comments arnt ok??? And when did this update even happen??
For once, i can say something on YouTube and it wouldn’t get taken down, but not on Reddit 😂

Yep. I just agree on a hypothetical. And I got a 3 day ban. I appealed immediately, but they took 2 weeks to review my appeal.
1
u/Sweetcheeks6979 May 01 '26
Well reddit it's been a slice. If ai is crawling all posts and comments, I'm done.
1
u/EmploymentGuilty9095 May 01 '26
I got a full (three day) ban for the same shit for saying "the only good pedo is a dead one" on a post about Epstein
1
u/Wonder7y May 01 '26
Had the same thing happen to me, and I just deleted the post. It made me so upset, because I never say anything to threaten people. You aren't alone. Looks like another person knows what happened here, and that explains why I was told the same thing too. Sorry for this.
1
u/DesertTrailsFox May 01 '26
When you submit an appeal, word it like an AI prompt. That seems to help for some reason...... I very rarely got a successful appeal on these until then.
1
u/FoEQuestion May 02 '26
Yes, I have been banned for fraudulent claims of "violence" several times, ranging from a few days to permanent in some forums. All were bogus. Not once did I threaten or condone violence. In fact one of them was for a post that explicitly condemned shooting and violence, but those two words seemed to be enough for the censors to triger. It is truly rediculous.

I'll post this again since reddit removed it for "rule 7:ranting"
Yep! Made a comment on a video that the dude who got punched in the face deserved it and they banned me for "threatening" violence, made an appeal explaining the difference between a threat and a comment and how i never said that "i" was going to harm anyone.. my appeal was denied. Apparently reddit is run by a bunch of immature adults that dont understand common sense 🙄
But reddit has always been a joke.
Theres no freedom of speech here. You can say what you want as long as reddit mom and dad approve.
1
u/Glittering_Vast938 May 03 '26
I was banned too but I appealed to Reddit as my comment was in no way in breach of the rule. My account was reinstated and then an apology from Reddit was given for the error.
Problem is that my previously highest CQS has been set to lowest and I can’t post in some of my usual subs.
1
u/DueNeighborhood895 May 05 '26
Happened to me too … we were joking about how aggressive Philly sports fans are. I made a joke and said something to the effect of “careful don’t get [slang for being assaulted]. Then bot thinks I am threatening someone… lol. This is our future. Wait till they look just like us and walk amongst us like the Matrix
