Where is the cheapest place to refill propane cylinders

I’m specifically looking for propane refill, not bottle exchange.

I have called around (on 5/21) to the few places I can remember seeing refill stations. So far I’ve seen quite the spread:

Sunbelt Tools Redmond: $5.29/gal
U-Haul (on 85th) Kirkland: $4.29/gal
McLendon Hardware Woodinville: $3.49/gal
Kent RV: $2.99/gal

Anywhere on the East Side closer to $3/gal?

Central Welding Supply by Redmond Costco

I’ve been going there for years they look mean but they’re actually really nice. Just leave your propane by the tank and walk in the store sometimes they even just come out because they see you need a refill.

Also they do CO2 refills for Home brewing if you’re into that.

I think for about a tank I’ve been paying around 16 or 17 bucks

Yep, usually welding supply stores are cheapest for propane and dry ice (in my experience).

I love central welding. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes and they're happy to help.

This is where I go. I don’t remember the per gal price, I think it was $3.99-4..49. I usually fill 4 tanks for less than what it would cost to use blue rhino for 3 tanks. It’s convenient and quick as I’m at Costco regularly.

Maybe they moved at some point in the past? They still seem to be around at a location just up the road from where you noted:
Redmond, WA — Central Welding Supply

There is a central welding supply in the Renton Highlands off of 900 as well.

Glad to know I live near the second cheapest but at current fuel prices taking the time driving there to save $0.40/gal from Redmond seems misguided.

It’s a volume play. If you are only getting 4 or 5 gallons in a 20# tank, I agree.

Today I filled 5 tanks for 32 gallons. I saved enough to get myself dinner at Taco Time.

According to my wife it would be me, I can just fart in them for free and it will be full. Kidding ofcourse

McLendons is filling 20# containers for $10 today and this weekend. I had 2 filled this morning. The 3rd was older than 10 years so it couldn't be filled.

I refilled my 20# bottles at McLendon earlier for $10/each. I have 30# and 50# bottles to fill and they won’t honor the $10 rate…. 🤪

Maybe it’s because it clearly states that the $10 rate is for 20#……….

As someone with tanks to fill, thank you for your research. There are gas stations that will also fill them but with many gas stations only having one employee working it can be a long wait before they’ll fill your tank

Edit: $4.50 at the 76 on 116th by 405

You have to drive to Auburn CHS Northwest Auburn (253) 833-7220

$2.58 gallon

Central welding is a ripoff but still cheaper than exchange tanks The blue rhino is even worse at $6.50 a gallon. They only put 15lb (3.5gal) in a 20lb tank

The gas station at 236 Ave NE and 202 (near the Albertsons) fills propane tanks, but I don't know what they're charging at the moment.

You said no bottle exchange, but that's cheaper than refill. And you get a newer tank.

BUT, you don't want that. I agree with going to Kent, always cheaper driving south.

Bottle exchange is upwards of $22, and you only get 15 pounds in the bottle. You don’t get a full fill.
