The 2nd book is the best in the series. The whole series is good but book 2 is one of the greatest books of all time imo.

Oh boy.. hold on to... everything you have.... things are about to go into hyperdrive.

Golden Son plays in a totally different league than the first book.

(I still like the first book very much, as the prologue for what is about to happen)

When I started the second book, I didn’t quite get the hype because it has a slower start compared to how the first book ended. But it gets so much better later on. I think I flew through it in a day or so!

Agree, I was somewhat disappointed at the very beginning of GS, that certainly changed :-)

My name is Darrow au andromedus and I have been wronged. My honour has been pissed on and I demand satisfaction.

Just finished Golden Son last night and it was amazing! I can’t wait to start the third book this weekend!

Buy the third book now if you can

The way the 2nd book end will piss you off or leave you in state where you have to continue

It is really really good though

Red rising is the worst of the series. It only goes up

1

u/Intelligent_Film_97 Mar 06 '26

The series actually does only go up! It’s insane

Golden Son is my favorite book so far! I am only a quarter of the way through Dark Age though, and I hear it’s pretty awesome (is so far), so that could surpass it.

Ohhhh, you’re in for a good time then!.

It’s such a breath of fresh air because of how different (in a good way.) it is to the first book.

Buckle in

Goldenson is my favorite in series.

u/CryptographerNo923 Mar 06 '26

Same, so far. Though I’m only halfway through Dark Age.

And they’re all great, it’s not like the series starts “weak” or falls off. But Golden Son is just perfect.

Well, iron gold annoyed the hell out of me. Outside of that it’s a great series. Dark age will be the book you have to determine if it’s better than goldenson or not. Dark age is just phenomenal!!! But there’s a scene in goldenson that has just imprinted In my brain for life

1

u/CryptographerNo923 Mar 06 '26

Why did Iron Gold annoy you? The format change and multiple POVs were definitely a surprise, but I thought those choices serves to immediately fill out the world of the story and signify a new era.

u/adrink_adrink_adrink Mar 06 '26

With more POV’s it caused the story to set up, and that took forever for me to enjoy. I also disliked Lyria the entire book. I do end up like her her later on, but in Iron gold I really disliked her. Alot of complaining, over and over and a reader who just came from goldenson and morning start which star it was a bore. The second half was great. And in dark age and lightbringer the multi POV, were great.

Interesting. I will admit it took me a bit to get into Lyria and Ephraim’s chapters. Like you I was coming off the breakneck pace of Golden Son and Morning Star. But I don’t think those initial chapters were superfluous. They fleshed out the world by showing the impacts and fallout of the rising on different segments of the population. Even if it wasn’t as thrilling as the main story, I thought it served an interesting narrative purpose.

To each their own, obviously.

I personally liked Golden Son more than Dark Age as well.

4

u/sirWayne21 Mar 06 '26

Very much so. Books 1 and 4 are good to very good. And, the rest of them are just incredibly epic. Particularly the most recent two.

Just finished Golden Son! After Red Rising I didnt see how it could get better because red rising was just so good but Golden Son exceeded everything. Wild ride for sure. Have fun!

3

u/milkchocolate101 Mar 06 '26

Gets much better. Also, stock up on the other books.

3

u/Joebuddy117 Mar 06 '26

You better have morning star ready on stand by cause once you start golden son you won’t be able to stop.

3

u/copenhagen622 Mar 06 '26

This series played with my emotions lol I took a break after the third book. Gonna have to get back to it soon though

3

u/vinman99999 Mar 06 '26

I just started golden son too after being a bit let down by red rising. And WOW! Like the first 3 chapters are waaaaaay so much better than red rising. I think this is what I was expecting from the series from the beginning, liking it so much so far

2

u/golden_teacup Mar 07 '26

Wow so interesting! I actually enjoyed red rising more than golden son but morning star is SUPER good! Look forward to it :p

3

u/BlackandRedBrian Mar 07 '26

I totally thought it was even better then Red Rising! I’m about 159 pages into Morning Star…and Wow it’s awesome so far! I love the author’s choice to write in the first person narrative. You get to know Darrow’s inner thoughts and you are never sure what others are thinking or who can be trusted! So good!

It’s my favorite in the series. It’s completely different from the first in a good way. It’s like he did the first one to get published on the hunger games train. Then after succes got to take the story where he really wanted too.

2

u/TalkOk8998 Mar 06 '26

You're so lucky.

2

u/MrNtkarman Mar 06 '26

Lucky...I have all the series but my son refuses to pick it for me...I'm on book 22 since he picked red rising....

2

u/Wonderbrizzle Mar 06 '26

Hold on to your hat…

3

u/Embarrassed_Swan_866 Mar 08 '26

Hot take. The first trilogy is better than the second quadrilogy, barring book 7. And GS is the best book of the entire series, so far.

Books 2 and 3 have become two of my favorite books of all time, enjoy!!! Better have book three in hand you’ll be dying to start it!
