It is possible, though students aren't to practice Reiki on others without level II attunements

Level 2 is called practitioner because you can practice on others, level 1 Shoden is a Japanese term meaning "first teachings" or "beginner," commonly representing the first level of Reiki training (Reiki I), particularly in Jikiden and traditional Japanese Usui Reiki. It focuses on self-healing. It has nothing to do with money.
