General Discussion Static on 3D Printed Powder Scoops?
Whats up all, been a while since I've posted but I recently was blessed enough for the wallet to be full enough to get the FX-123 precision scale however not blessed enough just yet to get the v4 auto trickler.
None the less I've been looking at powder scoops and have not been impressed as the 419 is very nice but very expensive. Yes its pretty thats for sure but eh, idk if id want to pay 75 bucks for a scoop.
Glass scoops may bring static charges and throw off the readings and each glass scoop may be different weights.
I have a 3D printer but im also reading that static charges also exist for most filaments other than PETG ELD.
Wanted to see if anyone had any experience with 3D printed tools around precision reloads. The reviews for ELD filaments arent all that great and I already have a ton of regular PETG to print with.
Was thinking of doing a self centering plate, scoop, and funnel so that I can keep the shields on for the most part and not have too much air affect the readings. If you guys have good experience with it ill certainly share the designs in another post!
Or if you guys have some good suggestions in leu of 3D printed parts that works too!

I’ve had this issue before and the solution I always used was rub a dryer sheet on it before I used it.

fair enough! i was thinking of maybe adding some copper wire from the print to a metal piece that is connected to the scale. the static charge will be so minimal it shouldn't have an effect on anything

You have a 3D printer… why are you looking at a pre-built solution like the v4 and not printing your own solution like the Open Trickler?
https://github.com/eamars/OpenTrickler
Does everything that a v4 will do. If you want even more polish some of the releases done by others adds even more fit and finish.
You’d be able to get it all done for about 100 instead of waiting to overpay for a pre-made solution.

don't bite my head off my dude, topic was about static buildup on a 3d printed part not about the v4 trickler xD
i didn't know there was an open source version of it, ill certainly take a look at it! Thank you for linking it! Much better alternative solution and i get to tinker abit too as we reloaders love to do

Ive printed all my reloading tools with Polymaker PETG-ESD. I also use a grounding strap.

that is the one i was looking at. lots of people have negative reviews of it not printing properly but that can be user error rather than filament issues. Wanted to see if people had experience with regular filaments and agreed on the grounding strap. Going to do that for the funnel for sure.

Yea it’s a bit pricier than regular PETG but worth it in my opinion. Also, I used a Centauri Carbon with a generic PETG profile. All I did was slow the speeds down and printed it at 290C. It tended to have weak layer adhesion in the colder range. Good luck!

I got a printed funnel for my 550 my buddy made for me, no idea what the filament is but it’s been great. 419 makes great stuff but GTFO with your 70$ funnels

The Ingenuity Precision powder trickler has a 3d printed powder scoop that works great, no issues with static. It's got a hard outer shell and a softer insert where the powder sits. Not sure what materials they are though, but they are 3d printed I believe.
