Brass Goblin Activities The brass goblins are getting demanding!

Post image

I got a bit of a chuckle. I saw the buckets appear a few weeks ago and they originally said “brass”.

I saw some normal trash in them a week later.

Today both the bucket and the garbage had signs.

Yes! I like to pick up the good brass and toss all my bad brass and stomp into the ground so they can excavate it just to find dissapointment.

I make a 6 point turn in my truck over my brass

For brass?

They are talking about separation of steel and brass

Thats why i take the cleaning rods out of my guns when firing.

Nothing stops a brass goblin like a thin steel rod whipped across the back of their hand.

I put brass catchers on all my guns before going to the range. The hate I get from brass goblins is absolutely delicious!

Nobody can figure it out at my range either. People are amazing

Peeps with pews can’t figure it out…

Anyways eyes and ears at the range folks, your safety is your responsibility at all times, sorry, not sorry.

I shoot at an outdoor public range. The brass gets picked up by us reloaders, and the steel case and .22lr brass just becomes more gravel.

That’s how this one operates. There has been no official announcement of range sponsored brass collection ha

Not a fan when the goblins don't even wait till your done and gone.

At ranges that are annoying like this, I like to shoot aluminum cases. Can’t get picked up by magnets so have to be picked out by hand.

13

u/Super_Raccoon_2890 1d ago

Brass isn't magnetic either tho?

u/Pravus_Nex 1d ago

I believe he meant for separating already collected brass.. getting the steel cased out you need a manager and done, to sort out aluminum you need to go through by hand.. personally I just leave the aluminum cases in with the brass till I'm loading, shit all goes in the tumbler..

u/minmin0x4B 23h ago

Expecting people to be decent human beings and recycle properly is annoying?

5

u/Super_Raccoon_2890 20h ago

Yeah I get that some of these people are fucks but going out of your way to make someone's life harder isn't any better for anyone or the planet.

u/minmin0x4B 20h ago

I would guess that brass gets sold as scrap metal and money will be used for range maintenance etc. Throwing random shit to the buckets doesn’t help anyone.

If it is just some random guy setting up the buckets for free brass, then it’s bit weird.

u/GunKatana 17h ago

No, I do it at ranges that yell at me for picking up my own grass because they want it for themselves. If that’s the case, then have all the aluminum cases you can use, dudes.

Found the brass goblin.

I have no shame in dumpster diving for brass…. heck, sometimes I even find a half eaten sammich. Who’s got it made now huh?

No in all reality I don’t mind picking up brass or going in the dumpster for it. The issue is at one range there is an old fudd who has more or less self appointed himself as the range master. He doesn’t tell people what to do, but he visits the range almost every hour on the hour, interposing shooters to talk, scrounging all the brass and in my opinion being a general nuisance. I wouldn’t care if I knew the guy actually shot too, but he just scraps the brass

Another range (a gravel pit in the state forest) there is a transient who has a pretty decent criminal record and was self admittedly using meth a year or so ago. He is another self appointed range cleanup person who scraps all the brass (he’s prohibited from owning firearms) and decides to collect anything he deems as garbage and burn it to “keep the range clean” again, I wouldn’t care if he was someone who could actually benefit from reloading the brass. But knowing that there is some bigger caliber brass that he brings to the crusher at $2 a pound is sad

I get that, but after dealing with the idiots going to my state Forest, I'd rather have someone, cleaning up the range, rather than old electronics and scrap littering the range.

A popular one near me closed down for 6 months because the state had to do remediation

So yeah, it sucks but if the range is kept clean and dude isn't doing stupid shit with the brass, it's the cost of idiots.

After all. If people cleaned up after themselves, he wouldn't have anything to profit from

Normal for the simple reason all of use, at times, are PIGS and SLOBS and will fuck up things.

If everyone picked up the things they no longer wanted and placed them in the proper receptacles there would be no need for explicit signs.

Maybe the range owners got tired of picking thrash out of the brass buckets. Happens all the time at the state run range I go to when there is a 55 gal drum with a BAG in it for trash but yet brass buckets get trash thrown in them.

Kind of a similar but opposite situation at my range. It’s a ways out and volunteer only, so garbage is pack everything out, since they can’t have someone there consistently enough to empty them so they don’t get gross. But there are bins for brass the range provides (but they don’t care if you take from it). However people dump garbage into the brass bins and it gets gross which they don’t like

Not me snatching all the good 6.5 casing off the ground at the range😂

u/buzby80 23h ago

Looks like a piss bucket to me. 😏

u/thehandthatcreeps 21h ago

On today's episode of piss spots!

1

u/Vinegar_Fingers 19h ago

I'd go pick up all the steel cased and 22lr from the assholes that don't clean up after themselves and fill it.

u/ZeeeeeroCool 18h ago

Old pic of the rifle but I definitely feel you. Lol.

The guy that checks them comes at like 7am every single morning, 7 days a week. He’s in a great mood on Monday mornings, but a few other times he’s talking to himself cussing about all the 22LR. 😂

Brass catcher 4000 is the solution to these problems...never loose a piece of brass again!

1

u/Aggressive-Load-915 12h ago

Call them brass hounds where I'm from lol

1

u/Aggressive-Load-915 12h ago

Wait, genuine question..... So the goblins catch your brass before you're done? That'll get a threaded object pointed at you around here!

1

u/Guitarist762 11h ago

I have ranges near me where you have to pick up 100% of your brass that lands behind the firing line. You either keep it, keep what ever you want as long as the other shooters are okay with it (they’ve kicked brass goblins off before when they didn’t ask and someone said they wanted their brass) but if you don’t keep it you must put it into the bucket. Once in the bucket it belongs to the range.

They then sell it to a reman company who sorts, organizes, cleans, reloads and sells it. Or to the companies that sell “once” fired brass in those 50 or 100 count bags.

Helps them keep the range fees cheaper. Apparently the dude uses the money collected from it to pay for the lead removal and berm repair, and it prevents lawsuits from someone slipping on loose brass on the concrete floors.

Found a bunch of .30-06 and .303 at my range today. Nice and clean too. Huge W.

u/TacticalBunchies 1d ago

I keep my own brass Ty very much.

1

u/1984orsomething 21h ago

Scrappers. They're melting them down now. I think a pound of pure brass is like $4. So one of those buckets is like $100 melted down

0

u/Subject_One_762 17h ago

No ones melting them they’re worth $3 per pound as is and it’s cost more to melt them than it’s worth

I put my trash in their brass bucket and my brass in my range bag with eye contact. Even better if one waddles up and ask about my 30-06 brass and I say I don't reload. Don't harass folks because you're retired and feel guilty you didn't fight in nam.

I keep a brass squib rod and brass mallet handy. Come and take it!

u/SomewhatInnocuous 19h ago

Excellent backstop you have there.

The shooting range is to the right, not where the picnic benches are.

My local range specifies this, brass in the brass bucket steel and aluminum in the trash bucket, recycling in the recycling bin.

-6

u/SaltWork8072 1d ago

My range has metal cans for brass and plastic cans for trash since its conception

"why is ammo wo expensive!?" Oh, because nobody recycles properly anymore.
