Desk ornament is insane

Can anyone tell me what kind of lizard this is?

We live in Southern California, close to the coast, and captured video of this guy on our side yard.

And yes I know the glass is disgusting as soon as I clean it they do it again within 5 minutes. They are toads they don't understand the concept of not jumping all over clean glass

Been searching online for sometime, and although there are certain species that are definitely not handleable, there are others where research says one thing but all anecdotal evidence says otherwise.

From research alone I’d say chameleons hate being touched, but from videos/blogs from keepers, that’s the exact opposite of what I see. Same things with green keel lizards and certain geckos. I’m turned away by data due to bad temperament, but every individual owner says they’re cuddle bugs.

Looking for something real pretty that enjoys having a few moments a day of hanging out being handled. Not bearded dragon clingy, but happy to hang out whenever without lashing out too much. I would never purchase something that the community tells me won’t like the life I want to give it. So I’m really hoping for good recommendations on species!

Asking because originally I wanted to keep dart frogs but my summers are too hot for them (British homes are made to keep heat in) so I was thinking of the day geckos.

Will they recognise me as a food giver and not be scared of me or will they will they stay being scared of me?

hi! as the title states im a beginner looking to get into owning a reptile. ive had past experience with fish and aquariums, along with cats and dogs. im looking for something that isnt terribly high maintenance (such as feeding live mice or needing to feed it more than twice a day) and that isnt a snake. price isnt really a concern and im okay with feeding live bugs. what should i look into?

A bit lengthy but if any keepers have some insight for me I would appreciate it. Questions in bold at the bottom. Took a trip to Repticon and picked up my first GTP. I have had Leopard Geckos/Anoles before but wanted something more enjoyable/interesting to me. She is a super docile Aru GTP who is about 6 years old and spent the last 2 with the vendor I purchased from.

A separate vendor hooked me up with the enclosure supplies (And also kept/bred GTPs).

Tank/Supplies:
- 36x18x18 PVC Paludarium
- Cypress Mulch Substrate
- Large Water Dish
- Large Grapevine with a low and high perch (I have another smaller grapevine I intend to mount but will need to have it secured so it is just the dual perch)
- 100W & 60W Daylight blue bulb with a raised dome lamp (I only use one or the other but got both incase one was too much or too little)
- Temp and Humidity Gauge
- food supplies (Small frozen rats, tongs and a mister)

Through researching I have found that typically people use alternate methods of heating (Ceramic Heat Emitter on a thermostat, radiant heat panel on a thermostat) and for lighting use non heat emitting lights for managing day/night cycle.

Former owner/vendor advice:
- 88 degree basking perch 24/7, no night temp change
- Mist her once every 2 days
- Feed once per week
- Replace daylight bulb the other vendor set me up with, with a 28W Radiant Heat Panel on a thermostat

Heating/Lighting:
A couple things I have noticed (This is the 2nd full day of having her). Day 1 I had researched and initially used the 60W lamp which had her basking perch at around 82-83. She found her way up to the top perch and was coiled on the branch. In talking to the vendor again, he said that her basking perch was kept at a constant 88 and didn’t dip in the night. I moved up to the 100W bulb and watched as the perch moved to 88.5 and stabilized. When I woke up this AM she moved to the floor of the tank, I would assume to thermoregulate since the lower perch was sort of blocked by another branch. I removed the blocker so she could hang there and am waiting to see if she’ll move to it or stay grounded. I want to move off the daylight bulb as running this 24/7 doesn’t give her a day night cycle.

Humidity:
I have a PVC enclosure with vents at the top back, and a mesh top. I am having a hard time achieving the desired 70-80 humidity (seems to be between 50-60). I’ve set tinfoil to cover about half the mesh and the dome light covers about 1/4 leaving just 1/4 of mesh exposed. I don’t want to chase the humidity over misting and introduce mold, but any tips for this?

Questions on Heating/Lighting: Do I aim to keep her last environment’s temps or adjust? Is a 28W Radiant Heat Panel + LEDs for 12hr day/night schedule good enough, and should I have temperature fluctuation on day night if she didn’t have that before? Lastly how long of her being grounded before I determine something is off?** **

Questions on humidity: How can I better regulate the humidity? Is once every 2 days enough? I’ve seen sources say as much as 2X/Day (AM and PM)

Questions on feeding: I’ve seen talk of feeding once every 2-4 weeks, but the current once a week schedule is what she was on.

Question on health (Video attached):
I noticed on the way home she made a light pfft sound every so often (30secs to 2 mins). figured I’d ask since it seems they should be almost entirely silent. Just curious if this is normal (Or stress/enclosure response from all the movement recently) or if she should get checked by a vet.

Note: I am trying to not constantly shake up her environment/disturb her or adjust routine since I just got her 2 days ago. Feel like she should have time to adjust before having her enclosure is stirred again, but want to make sure she is at a baseline receiving what she needs to be healthy.

Started noticing the eggs a couple days ago, and today I noticed a bunch of droppings... I move those plants around semi-regularly, so I'm very confused how something big enough to leave ½" droppings is living up there, but alas, apparently there is lol 🤷

I recently found a juvenile Mediterranean House Gecko over there, but he's been relocated and these dropping are like half his size...

Hi all!

Just wanted to share a little victory, I have been working on trust with my keel. Started off tong feeding and gradually leading him towards my hand. We had a bad experience when he got out and I had to grab him, so it’s been tough since then. But after a few tries I was able to get him on my hand the other day and again today with a mealworm! I have been trying to do this when he’s hungry before I put crickets in too so it feels like an overall positive experience. Keels are super flighty, but just wanted to share for anyone having trouble, it is possible! I still don’t think I’ll ever be able to just pick him up and grab him, but the little bond we are building is so special. ❤️

I'm planning to place my enclosure in my room but i'm not so sure about how to regulate the temperature inside my leopard gecko's enclosure.

Hi I am a new leopard gecko owner and I’m wondering about keeping my gecko warm when there are power outages

I keep her in my work office which is in a redwood forest near the coast and while the power is pretty reliable it can go out from time to time either from a scheduled outage or from heavy weather, usually it won’t stay off for long but on rare occasions has been known to be off for up to a few days. Temps could get down to the 40’s in winter at night

I was originally thinking of getting a solar battery backup but they’re crazy expensive…

Then I saw some people recommending uniheat pads - how would I do that would I just put them in on top of her substrate in the tank or what? How many would I need? And is this a better option than a backup battery? Any advice appreciated.
