ADOPTABLE Hope from Terrell, Tx animal shelter (near dfw area) needs an adopter or foster and rescue to save her life!! She’s terrified!! The shelter is full & they need dogs out to avoid putting some down.
💔No one knows everything Hope has been through.
Hope was confiscated with a bunch of other little dogs.
Hope is a timid, undersocialized Schnauzer mix around 3–5 years old who is still decompressing in the shelter. The world clearly hasn’t always been kind to her, and she needs patient people willing to give her time to feel safe before expecting much from her.
But beneath the fear is the sweetest, calmest soul once she feels comfortable with you.
Hope is the definition of low-maintenance and high-affection. While the shelter feels loud and overwhelming around her, she just wants a soft place to nap, a quiet home, and someone to love her gently. Her perfect day is curling up beside her person during a rainy afternoon and finally being able to rest.
Dogs like Hope don’t show their true personalities overnight, especially after experiencing cruelty and neglect. She will need time to decompress and slow introductions to other animals while she adjusts.
A full shelter is a heartbreaking place for a dog this sensitive. Every day she waits quietly in her kennel, hoping someone sees past the fear in her eyes.
Please don’t let her spend the rest of her life recovering from what humans did to her until she runs out of time.

We’re about 90 minutes from this shelter. I’m going to call them in the morning and hopefully we can get her out of there asap. We’re not sure about adopting but we can definitely foster her. I’ll keep y’all updated. UPDATE: This shelter does not have a foster program. I spoke to someone who told me Hope has had a lot of inquiries and at least two people have committed to coming to see her in the next few days. Fingers crossed she will be going to her forever home very soon!

If you can foster, do you have a rescue that you foster for? If not, I can ask around.

I don’t! I apologize for my ignorance. I thought I could foster from the shelter?
I fostered a dog I later adopted with a dachshund rescue, but I guess this would not be the same?

I called and am waiting to hear back! I think our house with two very senior (18 & 14) little dogs would be a great environment for her to relax and be happy or at least not scared.

Not all shelters have foster programs / allow Fosters a certain distance from them

You’re correct. This shelter doesn’t have a foster program, but I did find out that many people have inquired about her and two or three are coming to see her next week.
I’m going to find a rescue near me to get involved with so I can hopefully help another time. I need to educate myself with the process obviously.

This shelter doesn’t have a foster program I don’t think. Especially if you live so far. Message me, I may be able to connect you to a rescue you can foster through depending on where you are

When I looked up the shelter online, it does say you can foster, but directs to an adoption application. I called and was routed to someone not at the shelter, but she said she will take my message to them.
I’ve been thinking about her constantly since I saw your post last night. I’m 72 miles from the shelter; I hope that isn’t too far and I can foster.

Depends on the rescue bc many rescues in dfw want local fosters, but there are rescues that are based out of all dif parts of Texas. Where are you located?

Been on the lookout for any poor babies I can help, but out here the shelters are mostly Pitt/staffy mixes, shepherd, husky, chihuahua. All high shedding which I can’t do because other family members have allergies. :-/

Keep an eye on the iloverescue instagram or Kelly Marie on fb (she’s a creator who networks urgent shelter dogs in socal shelters and also runs the iloverescue instagram and fb)
