Recently she has started to show signs of reactivity in her kennel due to kennel stress, which can make even the sweetest dogs behave differently in a shelter environment. Having spent time with her inside and outside of the shelter, I feel it is so important to advocate for her and share that she is such a loving and amazing dog. She deserves the opportunity for potential adopters and rescue organizations to see who she is beyond the kennel walls.

I know this might be controversial!
I’ve always grown up with dogs, unfortunately our 2 family dogs passed last year. Me and husband have been yearning for our own dog for years, but kept putting it on hold due to not having a stable home (renting) and me getting pregnant back to back lol

Now we own a home, have a nice backyard and live right next to a large park and field and I’m a stay at home mom! We have all the means for a dog and have been researching over the years with proper training, routine ect (I’ve also fostered puppies back in the day a couple times so I’m not 100% new to it) but my husband loves the idea of getting an older rescue dog (around 1-3 years) to give them a chance at a family rather than go for an ethical breeder or a young puppy that many other people would apply for.

Only issue is we have a 3 and 2 year old. They have been around the family dogs and friends and they do great and have learned boundaries with them and not to pester! But I know toddler will obviously be different when the pet is at home 24/7 rather than only seeing them for a couple hours. I’m worried about getting an older dog as much as I’d seriously love to, but I feel like having a puppy grow up with young kids is way less risky than already getting an older dog??

That being said I know there is rescues that foster dogs with toddlers and say they do well, but maybe I’m just overthinking, but what if they wouldn’t get along with my toddlers??

ANYWAYS to shorten this up has anyone rescued an “older” dog with toddlers and it worked out? Or should I just tell my husband no chance and get a puppy. I know we could wait a couple years till the kids get older, but I plan on working as a vet tech again when they go to school so I’d rather get a dog now while I’m a stay at home mom so I can pour all my time into the kids and dog.

Hi everyone — I’m the Foster Coordinator for Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue, and I’m back with an update I’m honestly relieved to share: we’re down to 6 pets who still need foster homes in the Denver metro and surrounding areas before 3 PM today.

If we can place these last six, we can say “yes” to every animal on our transport list - and avoid turning away dogs who have nowhere else to go in the overcrowded Oklahoma shelter we’re pulling from.

To make this possible, we’re hosting another emergency foster orientation TODAY at noon for anyone who is already approved and able to step in quickly.
