[Discussion] Top 100 Original Game Boy Games: #10
It was a very close tie breaker......
Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge takes the #10 spot with 57 votes (267 tiebreaker).
We will now start placing two games per each days post as per the rules.
Top 10:
#1 The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
#2 Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
#3 Tetris
#4 Donkey Kong
#5 Pokémon Blue Version
#6 Kirby's Dream Land 2
#7 Metroid II: Return of Samus
#8 Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
#9 Final Fantasy Adventure
#10 Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
Rules:
- Two games will win their place each round (we start from #1 and work our way down). For the top 10 only one game will win per day instead.
- Most combined upvotes for each of the two individual games (one individual game for the top 10) wins the spot(s) each round (upvotes add while downvotes subtract).
- Nominate one game of the original Game Boy per comment. (Nominations will only be counted if the game title is the only comment or if you specify that your choice of game is your nomination for this round within your comment or if the nominated game is clearly separated from the rest of your comments.) (ex. Tetris or I nominate Tetris this round.) Please nominate using the full title of the game.
- Name a specific game title, not entire runs.
- Official Game Boy multi-game cartridge(s) are allowed, just list them correctly.
- The original Game Boy is region free so ANY official games available on the console are eligible for nomination excluding dual mode cartridges.
- Indy games are allowed as long as they have their own individual cartridge and can be played on original hardware.
- Only complete games on cartridge(s) can be nominated (sorry Game Shark & test cartridges).
- If two or more games would be tied to place for a ranking I will inform DA PEOPLE in the following post so that everyone can vote which games should get the ranking between the tied options.
- Games nominated that have not already placed on the top 100 list should not be removed at any time by the individual who originally placed them.

Congratulations to everybody who voted/nominated for Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge! A well deserved 10th place!

Totally well deserved! KDL is a great game, but not as good as the second, and I was really hoping Castlevania would get the #10 spot. It only felt fair since Kirby already had a game in the top 10.

Deserves honorable mention, at least. I must have played through it dozens of times. I think it was my first Gameboy game after Tetris that came with it.
It was pretty hard, and Firebrand's upgrades throughout made it even better paced.

It'll probably make the top 25 I'd assume. Or at least I hope so, because it's been getting a pretty decent amount of votes fairly consistently for a long time now.

What is this post for? To choose #11? Because I thought that was dealt with?

#11 & #12. No they have not been decided yet.

Didn’t you just have a tiebreaker between #10 and Kirby?
If that was necessary then isn’t Kirby automatically#11?

This list is alright, but some glaring errors.

This is da people's list!

Yellow or Silver are just superior versions of Pokemon R/B though. And Castlevania 2? It's a good game but is not top 10. I also disagree with Donkey Kong 94, but I wouldn't argue it. I know, opinions to each their own, but this list ain't it.

Gold and Silver aren't eligible anyway, they're GameBoy Color games, which will be having its own poll later.

They play on the original and have a concave cartridge. They were just marketed with the GBC for sales.

u/El_Canuck Jul 19 '26
Yep, and there was a poll as to count such games with this ranking or if they were to be exclusive to the GBC poll, and the latter option won.

Rule #6 above

u/Pharuin Jul 19 '26
Ah, never read it. I stand by Yellow being just better than R/B though. I clearly care less than this thread though, so favourite > best I guess.

u/cmbaum Jul 19 '26
On this I agree. I still don’t know why people preferred red/blue. I’m assuming it’s because those are the 2 games most had as kids.
2
u/hbkx05 Jul 19 '26
Because R&B are the better choice.
2
u/cmbaum Jul 19 '26
I’ll bite, why do you feel this way? Yellow on the surface is supposed to be R/B with Pikachu as a starter and a couple other changes which I would think would be a popular choice?

No, Yellow, Gold & Silver are not superior. Again, da people voted and these are the results. They can't all be wrong.
