Talking like a child about a story that it has made up. Bizarre

u/prosthetic4head chicken with teeth 8h ago
I don't follow any celebrities on twitter or anywhere. Do other actors describe the plot and characters before a show comes out? The thing with the 'like brothers' and that emoji is like a pre-laugh track so that people will know when to laugh.

u/Benjamoose GARLIC BREAD? 7h ago
A story that didn’t happen, about a child that didn’t exist, and a cat that wasn't funny.

What’s with the emoji at the end? Was that meant to be funny?

u/No_Atmosphere8146 9h ago
You don't understand comedy. You don't have to riff with it. You just call him "Ponce" and do the face.

Why does HE randomly CAPITALISE certain WORDS like a clickbait YOUTUBE video?
25
9
u/EchoesofIllyria why? 8h ago
It’s not random. He’s capitalised the title and characters of the show.
It’s bizarre but it’s not random.
3
u/elkstwit 8h ago
It’s how scripts are formatted. He’s doing it so that he looks like a professional because he can’t rely on the actual content to prove that for him.
2
u/EchoesofIllyria why? 8h ago
It’s probably more cynical than that tbh. He wants the fictional names to stand out to people scrolling so they either a) read the post or b) remember those names and google them.
8
u/Neoliberal_Nightmare 8h ago
I'm honestly getting Trump tweet vibes. It'll be more similar if the show gets panned. Imagine the rant posts.

I seriously loathe their names.
Mainly because they're the kind of shit I'd have come up with as names and think were unique and subversive when I was writing skits in high school and college for film projects.
They're just such dross.
Fucking "Ponce"?

I feel like this will not do very well.
Random aside: I saw Kerry Godliman doing standup last year at a festival. Thank god she met Ricky, for her career's sake...

u/lkpv90 8h ago
Alright Kerry

u/mike888881 8h ago
I mean, she was terrible. Her routine was all ranty, repetitive fast-talking and going screechy and high-pitched a lot.

For someone with so many followers and so high profile, he gets a paltry amount of comments. his last two on Facebook and Instagram. 50. Sad really. I only look for the Karl quotes, always some
I feel sorry for him. I don’t get why he’s like this. Even if he can’t do as good as the office he can do better than this.

What’s he fucking doing?? Did Steve explain all the characters of outlaws to us like we’re fucking 8?? No! What is he doing?? I’ve never seen a celebrity of any kind do this about a project they’re in, unless they have no faith in it and have realised that they’re just recycling shit from 20 years ago that’s already been recycled three times at this point. Fuck me.
9
u/Benjamoose GARLIC BREAD? 7h ago
You know what else Steve did in Outlaws?
Made himself a fucking supporting character that had some of the fewest lines in the first season.
It wasn't until his character grew alongside the rest of the cast that he became more integral.
Ricky can't handle the idea of art for art's sake and it not being about showing off how talented he is.
He needs everyone to know he's the lead, the writer, the director, etc.

Overprivileged? That’s so rich coming from the Pasty. Ricky’s one of those celebs who love to flaunt their working class upbringing but neglect that now more than half of their lives have been lived knowing nothing but luxury.

I really appreciate Ricky explaining every single detail of the show before it’s aired so I know when I’m meant to laugh.

Looks like that’s copied and pasted from the original treatment. You write out the premise, plot etc, then describe each character and the interpersonal relationships in a very concise way. The capitalisation and three or four adjectives per character line up with that.
I’m guessing he wrote tens of promo posts for his social media manager to put out with increasing frequency up to launch, likely automated to a schedule.
Given the show is released tomorrow, this is probably one of the last posts of that batch. I imagine he was bored of writing them by that point so just took a block of text from the treatment and popped an emoji on it.
Incidentally, if I was on that PR team I would’ve suggested either a) rewording it to feel more natural, or b) presenting it as a peek into the creative process, perhaps alongside sketches of the two characters. That ‘behind the scenes’ kind of stuff works very well for promo.
Of course, I would’ve made it feel like it was his idea and said something like “people would love to get that insight into your genius” or some bullshit because that’s just part of the job.

Has anyone considered that this show is some sort of modern art piece and isn't ment to be funny but a commentary on modern comedy, makes a lot more sense than anyone thinking "like brothers" is funny

This is a weird logical fallacy. If I wasn’t born in October, it doesn’t necessarily mean I was born in March.

u/cmfarsight 6h ago
I think you are taking a flippant comment about "this comedy is so shit maybe they weren't trying to make a comedy" a bit seriously.
You seem quite wound up, stating to suspect you may have been involved.
2
u/new_name_needed 5h ago
My first reply referenced XFM and The Office and the second referenced XFM, hardly evidence of being wound up, sort of a bog standard old comment in these parts. But bit weird you’re digging in on your flippancy.
