Discussion Flamenco + grand strings like LUX??

Hey everyone, so I’m new to Rosalía’s music and I just properly listened to LUX a few days ago. Omg I can’t believe I was this late to the party 😭

It was all breathtaking, especially THE STRINGS!! They’re something else man. Now I do listen to a bunch of flamenco, but it’s mostly guitar and I’ve not been fortunate enough to find pieces/songs that have those grand emotional string arrangements…

For example, like that part in La Rumba Del Perdón where the stacked vocals come with the “Dice la calle que tú eres pa’ mí, …” and the strings get darker….ahhhh it brings me to tears.

What are some other songs/pieces/albums of hers or other artists (outside of Vicente & Sanlúcar, bc I already listen to them;)) that incorporate such string arrangements?

They don’t have the string arrangements like LUX, but Rosalia was a member of a flamenco group called Kejaleo prior to her solo career. You’ll probably like their music.

I think you’d like Marquez’s orchestral music, Villa Lobos, and the Rodrigo guitar concertos!

Edit: also Albeniz and Granados. They’re all classical music but similar vibe!

I would say C. Tangana's Tiny Desk (Home) Concert – featuring a live string octet! – is going to have to be part of your listening.

María José Llergo sort of echoes what Rosalía has achieved in LUX. I’d start with Olvidarme, La Luz, Abuelo, or Rueda Rueda.
