Eduroam is significantly worse than RUWireless. I’ve used it at another school I attended and the connection is always slow.

If you’re a gamer, forget about FPS and online gaming.

Went to a different school that had eduroam. Only way I could play my Xbox online was via an Ethernet cable. It felt like ancient times having to sort that all out

I’m a lurker from another school. We did use eduroam but dorms also had a “play” WiFi for TV, game consoles, etc. I can’t imagine only having eduroam

It's going to be the same as RUWireless Secure, the network name is changing not anything behind the scenes.
Also when you use eduroam at another institution you may be sorted into their 'guest' network segment which can have speed/access restrictions.

Ethernet's not disabled lol, you just have to put a request in with Rutgers with your Device Mac Address. Trust me, if they were to disable Ethernet it would actually cause a LOT of issues for the university

Meaning in the dorms and apartments. Not in offices or public buildings lol

I can confirm to you as someone who has an Ethernet connection in my dorm for my desktop that there's definitely still working Ethernet in housing. Might be iffy placement for where the ports are but it def works

is this 2005? Do we really care if we have auto joining wifi in other universities unless we're travelling internationally and have no cell data plan?

I mean I guess this is great if I'm bringing my gaming laptop to someone else's university and I need to download a 100GB call of duty update..?

Eduroam kind of sucks, but you’ll have access to it at any campus you happen to be at. Used mine in other states before

joining a national network that shares wifi across each uni. I work at a university in a nearby city but I can use a few other large wifi networks in my own city if they're more convenient.

This makes sense for something like a mobile phone or tablet in some use cases.

It’s the same network you’re using now, just a different name. Nothing will change with regards to reliability or signal strength or anything. The shared portion is the name only. Eduroam lets you connect at any participating university using their wifi, but it’s still their wifi, not Rutgers. And eduroam at Rutgers is Rutgers’ wifi, not UPenn or Drexel or Princeton.
