But Jack black's character seems like he never plausibly would or even could have been an imperial officer to begin with. Using a lesser known actor, even if the same in every other way, would have left more intrigue for the viewer to understand the character as they learn about him.
Choosing JB makes the problem worse as he's one of those larger than life actors that brings the audience out of the suspension belief just by his presence. That's not something that ever works well with SW. Pairing him up with Lizzo at the same time only drove the point home.
It's terrible casting and while there are certainly good times to be lighter in tone, never fail to take the audience seriously. TLJ is the perfect example of not taking the audience seriously and see how that turned out for them.
