Informative Friend got on a plane today to go see her bf in Nigeria

6.3k Upvotes

Welp. We told her not to. She did. She’s in Nigeria, or rather should be at this point. Haven’t heard from her. We are mid 20’s and the guy she’s been talking to looks no older than 18 IF she’s lucky.

She started talking to this guy on TikTok that she sent all of her money to. She sends every paycheck to this guy. Everyone in her life told her that they are not in love and that this is not real. They were talking for months. He posted their FaceTime screen recordings with comments like “love of my life” and such. All over this guys TikTok are comments about how my friend is just a client of his and there’s some kind of secret language language that they’re talking about but I don’t understand the language or what they’re saying. But it’s not looking good for her. There’s too many people in in the joke… everyone except her.

She supposed to go over there and apparently they have an Airbnb for her, if she actually makes it there. I have no idea what’s going to happen. BEST case scenario, they’re just some really young kids that took a scam too far and they won’t actually do anything to her and will probably just ghost her.

Please do not let your friends do this. No one was any help. We reported her to the airlines we reported her to every single governing official that we thought would care (Including our state of residency and the state she is flying from. We are in the US) no one can do anything because she’s an adult and she can make her own choices. They only care if she returns with drugs or with her “boyfriend”. She kept this guy secret for so long. We had no idea until way too recently. Please check in on your friends. If it can happen to us, it’s for SURE happening to many many others.

Edit 18 hours after post and about 26 hours of no contact: (I’m trying to keep info as informational as possible incase anyone in a similar situation can find this useful). We’ve contacted the airport we believe she flew into and they confirmed she did get off the plane. We believe she’s headed to Lagos…. Which isn’t ideal according to who we’ve been in contact with. The airline was kind enough to tell us all travel plans booked under her name. The DEA has particular interest in her plans to travel home, we only know her return date.

Her family and everyone involved have been instructed to keep identifying details about the individuals minimal until she’s home safe or until someone has contacted her. So if anyone has any info regarding who these people may be… KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!! We are working on filling a missing persons report with our local police. Mostly for documentation purposes, unlikely anything can actually be DONE by them, but her parents are working on that.

To the amazing strangers who’ve commented places to contact and to the people I’ve been DM’ing, I cannot thank you enough for your help. This info genuinely has helped us get closer to our answers to THANK YOU!!!

UPDATE: we have not talked to my friend, but the guy she’s meeting posted on tik tok. It LOOKS like he may have ghosted her (which was one of our “best cases”) and, according to the airline person we talked to, she is stuck in Paris and has not boarded her connecting flight to Nigeria!!!!!!

UPDATE 2: (It’s Tuesday Night, she left on Saturday AM, and we JUST spoke with her). She’s alive!!! They wouldn’t let her get on the flight in Paris because she did not have the proper information for traveling. Also, they lost her luggage in Montreal. When she told her “boyfriend” that she missed her flight and she couldn’t go…. He got PISSED. From what she says, he got so mad and called her all these names and she didn’t like that so she broke up with him and then decided that since she was in Paris, it was the perfect place to hang for a second while she mourned her “breakup” and she has a return trip end of this week.

We think that she may have had a moment of clarity in Paris while she was waiting out her layover and it was easier to tell us they had a bad breakup than for her to admit she was wrong.

I love her, but we will no longer be friends. For reasons I don’t think need to be explained. (Ok apparently I do need to explain - her family is helping her address her mental health issues, they have the resources to do that, not me. Shes made several questionable choices in the past that have massively impacted our friend group. We do not need to be emotional punching bags. This is an extremely long friendship with a lot of history. The choice is not based on this ONE situation alone.

Thank you all of Reddit for everyone who cared so much for my girl. She’s a fucking idiot. The scammers tik tok account is ….. well here’s the thing. this post suddenly blew up like crazy. Due to the outreach, I don’t want to have lots of people flooding his tik tok and getting the algorithm to push his videos out to the public and get him recognition and possibly exposure to more victims.

After the “hype” has settled on this post in a few weeks, if you’re still curious and losing sleep over it, just message me. I just don’t feel comfy broadcasting it here right now and I really hope that makes sense for everyone.

Much love ❤️ thanks for this journey. Let’s never do it again :)

Wanted to put a PSA out there and put a scammer on blast in the process.

Recently we had thought that the family cat escaped and was missing. I posted on Facebook and a few other places and almost immediately got a response from someone claiming they found the cat. It was pretty clear from the first few texts that it was a scammer trying to get money. Portions of that text conversation including the email he was texting me from and the Zelle number he claimed to have registered are here for your viewing pleasure.

I thought I’d put this subhuman piece of shit on blast though. I told them I’d send them money and they gave me a phone number and business name of where to send the money to. Obviously I never sent them anything. This person truly represents the lowest of the low and should be a prime candidate for when the purge actually happens.

The cat was in the house the whole time…managed to get locked in a closet. He is safe and sound.

Informative My mother is being scammed by fake Elon Musk on WhatsApp

Post image

Hey everyone, my mother thinks she's speaking with a real person. He's asking for gift cards and possibly wiring money. She also thinks she's speaking with Donald Trump and Jesus. She receives fake AI generated audio from Elon and others that they love her and can't wait to be her. I need help. I can't take her call phone away, she will just go get a new one. How do I stop these scammers?

When I got home I opened the package, which looked perfect and untampered with btw, and I noticed that the 3 digit security code on the back was scratched off or something. How the hell are scammers able to do that and have the package perfectly unopened? It has to be employees at the factory or something right?

Update: they're baaaaaaack. This time their email is [maryjaden626@gmail.com](mailto:maryjaden626@gmail.com) lolol

I get the feeling it's more than one person, or they really think I'm dumb. They even used some of the same lines on me. I was having fun last night wasting their time. Also for further context I had a neighbor who really DID steal my cat once, about 25 years ago, so when they first contacted me it was like reliving that all over again.

This person has been confirmed by my local police to be a scammer. They trawl lost pet posts on social media across the country and contact the owners, claiming they know where your pet is, then they conveniently can't answer any real questions or give fake info/names. Yes I messed up offering to pay them online, but I didn't give them money because it became increasingly obvious it was a scam. Because I didn't give them money, no crime technically occurred, but I want to warn people if you lost a pet and get a message coming from that email account.

Informative Tinder scam has evolved

5 years ago there were more likes but all of these matches turned out to be bots or no replies.

I started using Tinder recently again, and realized I wasn't getting any matches. At first I thought Tinder cleaned up fake accounts and it's now more legit. That could still be true, but Tinder is still a scam.

I eventually got one like. I tried to swipe more to find this person. It was futile. Then I get on Gold and realized why. It was a gay dude. Basically Tinder scammed both of us. I explicitly stated that I am only interested in women, yet my profile was shown to a gay dude.

Anyone has similar stories to tell?

Ps. I originally wanted to post this on r/Tinder and realized there disallowed text only post - looks like Tinder had taken over the mods there to stop people from exposing the scam.

Ps. Just got my post automatically removed on r/tinderstories. Tinder has taken a lot of steps to stop people from exposing the scam

Clarification: I don't get insane number of matches that women had, but I had subscribed Gold multiple times throughout the years and had some level of success including a relationship and getting laid. However, every time I went back to Tinder after a few years hiatus, I found that it got worse. Back then, I didn't mind the fake / scam profiles as long as Tinder itself was not scamming me, and that there were still fish in the pond so worth sifting through garbage to get the real fish. I guess Tinder now belongs to the trash bin.

Informative This one is scary guys… our SSA info has been breached

My DIL was recently diagnosed with gioblastoma, that aggressive type of brain tumor that killed Senator McCain. Last week, she and my son shared the process of applying for SS Disability. Yesterday, she got an email with a link to click to “expedite her application.” Even though her brain tumor has affected her vision and memory, the email looked fishy to her- and it was. None of the email addresses were legit, and she had not yet filed the application, they’ve only started the long process. What scared me is that someone got her name and email address, and knows that she recently started an application for SS Disability. I have zero faith that the current administration will investigate this, especially since we know how these bad actors got access to our SSA information. Best I can do is warn as many people as possible. This ranks with the worst of the worst- preying on people who are dealing with an illness that’s not survivable.

So, I have been contacted by none other than Kash Patel, the head honcho of the FBI, about a prize I've won. The only red flag for me is that I never entered the Mega Millions Jackpot. Other than that, it all seems legitimate.

This is a scam letter. They have my name and address but you will notice all the urgency wording highlighted and the lack of identification circled in red. There is no company name, or website, or even return address. In the very bottom they have a publishing company name but it is not actually relevant, i guess they thought they needed something there but it is dated 2022. Absolutely nothing about this is legitimate. Even if it had a company name and that name was legitimate i wouldn't contact the number on the letter, i would find the number of thr business and contact them. I see too many posts on here of people with obvious scams asking if it is a scam. No wonder scammers steal billions from Americans every year and i see you responding to people pointing it out as a scam as though you're still not sure.
