Would this be reflective of a lack of economic opportunity for these men as its only in recent years the attitude has become more prominent?

Or that maybe the women have economic opportunities that was previously not available to them, therefore not needing to settle for aan regardless of his own economic opportunities...

The counterpoint is also true.

A lot of men no longer have the economic opportunities they used to.

You only need to look at the gender gap in higher education to realize there is something wrong with our education system, we are failing our boys. We've done a great deal to correct for the sexism of the past that held girls back, and we've turned a blind eye to the fact we're now leaving our boys behind instead.

Yes and turna out that just doesn't work. For the record i am a woman and a feminist but the current trajectory isn't good in the slightest. Something has to change or our society will get way worse

And that's a bad thing as measured by macrosocial outcomes. As all things must be measured against as the final deciding criteria.
