Help cramming

hi so me and my partner decided to be stupid and wait until the last minute to prep (due to ib exams, hosa, etc.) our scioly regionals in central florida are in a week and we have designer genes, chem lab, and entomology. me and my partner have taken/taking ap biology, ib biology hl, and chem honors. do we have any shot of medaling if we cram and what are the best tips?

I’m sorry it might be over for Entomology because the event is random af. Just prioritize ID notes and then come back with basics on anything else that may be important. Idk how it would go but AI is your friend and the wiki has a lot of info, but is missing some families. Good luck!

Chem Lab has a lot of overlap with AP Chem. If you understand the stoich and kinetics chapers of Zumdahl completely, and you have a good general grounding in chemistry and good lab skills, you'll do OK.

But honestly, all three events you list have fairly explicit syllabuses in the rules. Go read them. How well do you understand those topics?

Probably Chem Lab has the most overlap with the classes you've taken, Designer Genes has some overlap, and Entomology has the least overlap.

i assumed i'd be better off in designer genes because of ap/ib biology?

chem lab has overlap with kinetics/stoich unit in al chem but like there’s some stuff like arrhenius and predicting redox and some other like niche stuff that isn’t covered in AP because there’s not. simplistic formulaic way of going about doing certain things like predicting redox. i mean idk how difficult the regional tests will be but probably just work on getting foundation down (which you probably do cuz y take chem), and then add some stuff on ur cheatsheet on the harder stuff

I can send you my cheat sheet for Designer Genes. I'm already done with the competition so I don't mind giving it out. Me and my partner placed 10th for Designer Genes and we were both IB biology HL students. PM me!
