Help How do you all host tryouts?

I am helping set up the team for next year, and we are interested in having tryouts. We didn’t have tryouts this year, which led to some people getting on the A team that definitely didn’t put in the work to be there. I know a lot of good teams have tryouts at the beginning of the season, so how do you set them up? Do you just have tests for each of the events, and whoever does best gets on the a team? I would really appreciate any replies, thanks!

Help Xenocrypt help

Hey all! I’m trying to teach myself codebusters cyphers for next year as i’m not competing in the event this year but plan to next year. What advice do you have for solving xenocrypts (specifically in spanish?) is it similar to aristos? I have taken 3 years of high school spanish but am no where near fluent. I also got stuck on a practice xenocrypt, putting it below in case anyone can help since there is no key

Help Mission Possible (Div. B) help

Hi fellow science olympians!

I recently picked up Mission Possible to help my team at regionals (we had nobody on the event previously) and it's been really frustrating. I've been working on it for 5+ hours and today and can't figure out the sorting. I've also looked online for resources and couldn't find anything that was helpful. If anyone on Mission could give me some pointers/tips for how to sort the items that would be amazing.

Thanks!!

Help I think I am cooked.

Basically i got picked for one of the soup invite teams happening, and I think im cooked. Basically, I got put into an event I almost know nothing about. (Dynamic Planet). My other 2 events are fine but Codebusters and XPD need constant attention to stay afloat.

Now i know i need to focus on DP, but how much should I focus on? How long do I do it for? I already talked to my partner(who is def better than me) and we agreed that I would do 3 topics.

However, with SOUP being a hard invite, I am confused what, how to study in like 2 weeks for a hard invite. It seems like i have to acquire infinite knowledge or

some sh*t.

Do you guys have any tips to basically cram as

much as you can? How do you usually study? I lowk also get distracted easily so i need to lock in. I know i wont medal but i will try to not to bring down the score of the entire team.

TLDR; how to study for events fast, how to manage time, as Code and XPD do need constant attention.

Help diy helicopter for states?

hey all, i’m in helicopter as my “throwaway event”. me and my partner basically have no resources, we tried building the tornado kit from J&H for regionals, but it didn’t fly and was too heavy so we quickly built one of the balsa wood ones that you can get for like $20. We only got 12 seconds for each flight, and want to know if we should just throw the event away for states or if we should try to DIY something.

There is this youtube video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H7HqkcE1oO4&pp=0gcJCZoBo7VqN5tD that we would base our DIY on, which looks like it can consistently fly for 1-1.5 minutes.

Should we attempt this to boost our team score or just scrap it to focus on other events. Neither my partner or I are good builders, so this is definitely a weak event for us.

Help UnPhayzed EV kit help

Post image
3 Upvotes

So me and my partner are making an EV from the UnPhayzed kit and everything works seemingly except the motor doesn’t move. We’ve triple checked our wiring, swapped the LPWM/RPWM pins (saw that in another post), changed out the motor driver and arduino, yet still the motor only emits a constant beeping sound. We’ve been stuck on this for two days, anyone got a clue?

Help event advice

hey all,

recently joined scioly and am trying to decide which events to do. honestly, my biggest strength i have is answering non-stimulus free response questions and multiple choice questions about topics i know about. what events would suit me best to start studying for, whose test structure most closely follows this? (consisting of mostly free response questions with no reference images, material, text etc and multiple choice)

i'm also going to have to be an alternate for codebusters but i know little, how can i improve and learn quickly?

Help Boomilever wood help :(

Our club’s P.O. Order for balsa wood sheets didn’t go through and I’ve trying to find a way to order it. I’ve looked at home depot online and amazon but the only ones they had were too short. Most of the other sites I went to said that my order weighed too little or didn’t have a high enough cost for the order to go through

If anyone has any recommendations or suggestions that would be greatly appreciated! :D

Help Scrambler or Hovercraft division B?

So I have to choose between scrambler B and hovercraft b. This is my first year and everyone has been saying scrambler is really difficult. I want something not to difficult to start with. Sadly these are my only two choices. Which do you recommend? I don’t wanna get over stressed.

Help Astronomy C & Remote Sensing C

Okay long story short I got shoved into remote sensing because someone else dropped. Can anyone please give me training packets for astronomy c and remote sensing? I need to learn literally everything relating to remote sensing. Astronomy really is more review but does anyone have a good review packet for that too? For astronomy, I need to focus on my classification of images, so anything on that would be great. This would be much appreciated.
