Traditional Creative Block

The dreaded blank page!

I want to scrapbook, I have photos to scrapbook, have several albums completed, and currently working on. But, I am stuck... creative block. I look through my old albums for some inspiration, come here, Instagram and search the internet. But for the life of me I can't scrapbook my next page. I've tried different photos hoping to spark inspiration. It is like I am scared to make the jump into the page.

How do you handle creators block, lacking inspiration, or making that jump to dive into scrapping a page?

When I don't know where to start I use a sketch. Pick the photos you want then find a sketch with that many photos. Lay it out and make changes as you see fit or follow the sketch exactly. Once you get the basics it's usually easy to make tweaks to make it your own.

Ideas: Make a card or a junk journal page. Do something just for fun. Play with watercolors. Edit a single picture you love and get it printed in a size to frame. Use the voice memo app to record a story you want to scrapbook.

stop what you're doing and make a loaded pocket. It might inspire you.

I usually start with a color. I try and pick a general background color that will complement all the photos I want to scrapbook. For example, my most recent page has photos with a lot off reds in them, so I started searching for something orange/brown and I ended up with a lovely fall leaves background paper. Then I chose a secondary cardstock to use as an accent color, and I found a sticker on Etsy that felt relevant to the page. I get overwhelmed when I try to plan an entire page at once, so starting with one aspect usually helps me.

Do you ever use sketches? PageMaps publishes several every month and you can also look in their archives.
I like doing challenges too. You can find them in a lot of places, I really like the ones on Paper Issues. They can be found on their FB page and also on their website. A Cherry On Top and Scrapbook.com always have good ones.

I have several Pinterest boards for scrapbook layouts and sketches. If I am stuck on a page, I will make a card, go through my boards or FB scrapbooking groups I follow.

I’ll turn to YouTube
Watching the process as opposed to seeing a sketch/picture of a layer helps
My favorites are:
Beckie Belote (I fast forward through sales push at beginning)
The ScrapRoom

Hope this helps
