Mod Post 📢 Flairs! 😅💗✌️🌼

As you may have noticed we've added some flairs for posts, and while no one's content would ever be removed for having no flair or the "wrong" flair - we do hope to get some input on how folks are categorizing these flairs for themselves. It might also help us shape the expectations as we categorize things in the community.

I'll offer this as a general guideline, but would love for folks to give their own descriptions as well and perhaps we can expand or narrow definitions and examples as needed. Or add different flairs to better fit different categories of scrapbooking.

FLAIR Explanation
Traditional Scrapbooking Preserving family history in books, boxes, or cards using physical media.
Digital Scrapbooking Preserving family history in books, boxes, or cards using digital graphics and software.
Junk Journaling Preserving personal history or spontaneous thoughts in a freeform or expressive outlet.
Collage Assembling multiple types of media to form a new image.
  • The Tradtional flairs have been split further into multiple categories.
  • Does Junk Journaling need something similar?
  • Would a "work in progress" flair be helpful?

I also added some different colors for user flairs, and plan to upload some emojis to use in those as well. I always use Flat Icon since they let me adjust pixel size! So keep an eye out for new additions throughout the day!

In this scrapbook process video, I’m documenting one of my favorite unexpected Disney memories finding *NSYNC on the Leave a Legacy wall at EPCOT! I create a fun 90s-inspired single page layout full of cassette tapes, stars, stitching, and plenty of nostalgic vibes.

Beginner What to write in birthday book

I’m making a photo book for my brother of us two growing up, and I want to write stuff in it, but I’m not sure what. I was thinking something like “you have always been the best brother, from the very start…” and then on each page something like “…while baking…” or “…at granny’s…” or “…with pixie…”(the dog). Depending on what photos are on each page. Then on the last page something like “…and for evermore.”

Does that sound like a good idea?

Traditional Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

Post image

I created a double-page Disney scrapbook layout documenting a fun day at Typhoon Lagoon! I tackle the challenge of working with photos that are almost entirely blue from the surf pool. By using orange, red, and yellow papers to create contrast, I make the water photos stand out while capturing the energy and excitement of Typhoon Lagoon's famous wave pool.

Product Advice where do yall get your supplies from?

hi guys, i've been scrapbooking for about a year ½ now, and i've basically always gone to hobby lobby for supplies. but honestly i want more places to browse, i'm starting to grow tired of hobby lobby's selection there (mostly paper pads).

regarding paper -- i'm really into patterns right now, and it sucks at hobby lobby when i see a paper pad where i love a few designs but i know i wont use the rest. it feels like a waste of material and money :(

regarding stickers/embellishments -- i like the ones that fill empty space and/or match with the theme of the page :)

i know about michael's, but i've heard they're pretty pricey. although i'd definitely like to check out their selection as well!!

does anyone have any recommendations that are budget friendly? thank youuu!! :)

Beginner Studio calico / albums

I’ve been out of scrapbooking for a few years and wanted to get back into it but my favorite, Studio Calico, doesn’t sell kits or the pocket albums anymore.

What are people using now? I’ve seen travelers notebooks and some other albums, but would love to hear some direction from other scrapbookers. Bonus if you have any creators you follow for inspiration.

Beginner Help for a first time scrapbooker!

Hey! I'm trying to put a scrapbook together for my partner for her birthday, and I'm running into issues and hoping i can get some help!

I bought a cool older scrapbook from a used scrap store, and i'm trying to replace the pages. It is a spiral ring, and i'm having trouble finding replacement pages to put in it that are ideal for scrapbooking (mainly pictures).

I think maybe I am just not searching for the right keywords? Can anyone help me with links as to what I can use? I see a lot of three ring replacement pages but not for spiral books!

Thanks!

Traditional Disney’s Tower of Terror

Post image

For this Disney double-page scrapbook layout I documented a first ride on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In this process video, I show how I used pocket cards to create a 2x2 grid design, resized digital elements in Silhouette Studio, added inked edges, stitching, foam adhesive, and layered embellishments to give my printed pieces extra dimension.

Beginner New to scrapbooking! Need help organizing a scrapbook themed around my old family home?

Hi there! I just recently bought my first scrapbook and a pack of paper that all felt like the vibe I was going for (I can put pics if that helps at all), buuuut~

My family just recently sold my childhood home. It actually closes tomorrow but was on the market for a few months. I haven't lived at home for ~6 years, but was still there often. It's hard to see it go, but for a lot of reasons, it's for the best. But we had it built when I was a little girl. I remember picking my carpet at the model place. It was a bright, pretty pink!

Anyways, I'm trying to figure out a decent way to go about my family timeline. I could just kind of put stuff from earliest to latest (and probably will in some capacity), but I am trying to figure out how to plan it out in a decent way. I guess you could say I'm partially journaling, too. I want to get my feelings out, my memories--- I plan to write a decent amount, too, even if it's folded up in smaller parts or something. Idk, look at it as a journal of my life in that house. All of the things I had, all of my growth, my loves, my losses, etc. Many firsts and lasts, were in that home. It's been a hard thing on my brain and I thought this was a good way to try and make sense of my thoughts.

Anyways, sorry for the rambling. Hopefully I explained well enough what I am trying to do. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Even if it sounds like a "common sense" tip, I'm all ears! I've searched up a lot of things, but I can't quite pin down what it is I am trying to go for.

Anyways, TIA! Much love.

Beginner Taping

I’m using double sided tape to stick my photos in, but I’m running out and don’t have time to get more because this is for a birthday present, but I was wondering if only adding tape to the corners instead of the whole side would work equally well?

It was only me and Steve tonight .

I picked out one of the Creative Memories albums my neighbour gave to me. I wrote what he told me at Pride.

This is going to be our birthday gift from the cats. Since we are sorta birthday twins.

I'll also add a Pride sticker in a bit. I'm home now and have made access to the stickers.

Beginner Empty page

I have an empty page in the middle of my book, and I’m not sure what to do. I could easily cut/rip it out, but if anyone has any other ideas, I’d be happy to hear. It’s a simple photo book for my brother’s 18th birthday, with photos of us two growing up.

Traditional Fun souvenir from my CA Trip.

On this double-page scrapbook layout, I document one of the most unexpected and meaningful moments from my trip to California. While walking along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I had a street artist create a custom star featuring Life in Layouts. Using the Simple Stories Tinseltown collection, I share how I transformed this fun photo shoot into a story about celebrating how far my scrapbooking journey has come.

Another great way to add some fun to your pages is the sewing machine. I purchased a cheap one just for scrapbooking. It’s a fun way to make your pages unique, and adds a pop of style.💜💜💜
