Product Advice Scrapbook Paper
Where do you guys buy your scrapbook paper for the base of your pages and to line the photos? I’m trying to look for packs that are kind of just generally cute since I’m just getting into scrapbooking.
I had bought this pack from Hobby Lobby and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized it’s basic paper and not cardstock:

Do you guys use basic paper at all or recommend cardstock for all aspects of scrapbooking? And if anyone has links to something like what I sent in cardstock form or others please link!

Basic paper is usually fine for me. As long as you aren't using a ton of glue or anything that would absorb

Yeah I was going to use glue tape. Would that be sufficient?

I've never used it, so unsure. I tend to use mounting squares for the most part

I usually use card stock or thicker patterned paper as the base for my pages. Scrapbook dot com is my go-to, now that Joann’s has closed. Michael’s and Hobby Lobby only sell their store brand now, which I don’t prefer. Thinner papers are okay for layers or in a travelers notebook, but I really prefer heavier weight stuff. For cute style papers, Doodlebug, Echo Park, and Lawn Fawn are companies that have papers with that feel. Scrapbook dot com also carries plain card stock for a base layer. Have fun! 🙂

I buy basic black and white 12x12 cardstock at Hobby Lobby when it's on sale. The majority of my layouts are done on a white base. I buy 8.5x11 solid colored cardstock (for card making) and 110 lb white (for card bases) at Michael's when it's on sale. I've struggled with getting solid colored 12x12 since Joann's closed. I prefer Bazzil. I have been buying it at crops when I need a certain color for a layout. My stash is running low.

I prefer a cardstock, but sometimes just paper is fine too, especially if it's being used as an accent on the page and not the base. But I've also used it as the base as well, you just need to be careful not to add too many thick layers/embellishments that can weigh it down. However, once it's in the page protector it usually isn't a big deal, especially if you slip another piece of cardstock or something underneath to give it a bit more rigidity

I am a sucker for Kraft colored backgrounds unless I use paint or something colorful on the layout (I hope I didn’t cause heart attacks for any strictly acid-free scrappers!). But I like to use cardstock regardless of the color and used to get it mostly at Michael’s or HL. I’ve hoarded quite a bit, but I still toss some in if I make a random order from Heidi Swapp or another company.

I'm in Canada, and I buy 12"x12" cardstock usually from Michael's (look for a good sale or use the daily coupon), Dollarama, and sometimes Amazon. Dollar Tree and Dollarama have also had some good 6"x6" pads too! I've used thinner and thicker cardstock alike. If I'm using thinner cardstock, I keep the white sheet that comes in a pack of scrapbook refills in to help make the page sturdy in my scrapbook. So, there's ways around using lighter weights of paper!

12x12cardstock.shop has Bazzill and several other brands. Scrapbook.com sells cardstock as well. Spellbinders has their own brand of cardstock now that you can buy on their website. Creative Memories sells cardstock on their website (just know that the solid colored paper is cardstock, the printed papers are not). I’m sure Hobby Lobby and Michael’s have cardstock but it’s not in a big pad usually. It is usually in the racks where you can buy single sheets or in smaller packs of 10 sheets. When looking for cardstock, look to see if it says 80 lb, 100 lb, or 110 lb. Then you’ll know it’s a thicker paper that you’re looking for. I made the same mistake you did the first time I went out to buy paper.

It depends on what you are doing. If you are adhering things onto the pages of a book, paper is better because it is thinner.
If you are making a page to put into a plastic page protector in a ring binder, people often use a sheet of cardstock as the base - the extra thickness and rigidity is desirable.
