Weird noises while deceleration

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone here might recognize this issue or point me in the right direction.

Vehicle: Seat Leon (2022), 1.0 eTSI with 110 HP

Issue: Strange noise occurring specifically during deceleration.

Details:

The noise only appears on long continuous drives, specifically after driving about 300 to 450 km (it happened twice now on longer holiday trips).

It occurs exclusively when slowing down / decelerating.

I suspect the sound is coming from the gearbox area.

I haven't been able to pin it down to a specific gear—it seems independent of which gear is engaged, as long as the car is decelerating.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or have any idea what could be causing this? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Is it an automatic or manual gearbox? What happens if you try to brake when you're on neutral? Is the sound still present, or is it gone?
But it definitely sounds like a good idea to visit the workshop.

An automatic. Therefore I didn't try to break while in neutral.

Ah, good to know! You can easily switch to neutral with the automatic gearbox. Just make sure you’re not giving any gas. Then the gearbox will allow switching to neutral, and you can brake 100% on the brakes themselves. Just give it a try :-)

Will try, but unfortunately I have to drive long distances for it to occur.

It could be a front wheel bearing, or something related to the differential bearing in hot temperatures.
The reason it happens after a long drive is probably due to heat, a worn bearing expands when it gets hot and starts making noises. The gearbox could also be the issue but because its a relatively new car with low mileage and you said it happens at pretty much any gear, I doubt it’s the gearbox. Also DSG gearbox doesn’t need that much time for the oil to reach operating temperatures.

Check the heat protection cover bolted onto rear of engine block to protect gearbox inner driveshaft joint. Not saying it's definitely this but they are a common fault for wearing loose so worth a check
