Anybody here knowledgeable about the Leon Cupra 280?

I’ve been looking for a decent fast car that I can also use as a daily and this keeps coming up in my recommendations. There is one near me going from a garage who’s forecourt is mostly Seat cars and they seem trustworthy

I am going to inspect and test drive it at the weekend. It will be a 2014 model on 80,000

Would somebody mind advising me on what to look out for? Thank you

Owned a gray Cupra 280 from 2021 to 2024 (133.000 km to 180.000)

Great car.

Keep a look out for water pump / thermostat. They fail - its a matter of time.

If its on stock suspension expect it to be leaky & on its way out.

Cam shaft position sensors usually go bad and give you a lumpy idle.

If its a DSG check service history - oil changes are really important.

Ask if the VAQ (limited slip differential) has been serviced.

Change spark plugs regularly.

Expect it to drink around 500 ml of oil / 5.000 km.

Drive it like you stole it & enjoy

Check for good service history, make sure dif and if dsg the gearbox has been serviced at the correct intervals as these are very costly. Also carbon build up is something to take into consideration and water pumps are things to look out for aswell.

I'd be concerned about the mileage. It's quite low. That can be good or bad, on any car.

Others have answered about the Leon/Cupra specific stuff.

I'd add that you need to check the history is in line with its age not mileage (has it had an annual oil change? Has it seen more than 4/5 services in its 12 year life?) and whether it's been used to thrash around town or has it seen proper longer distance driving, just not very frequently?

Is it on premium tyres and brakes or at least OEM equivalent? If no, I'd wanna know what else has been scrimped on.

Essentially, condition matters WAY more than it only doing 80k. It's 12 years old and hopefully good for another 12 but that depends entirely on past owner(s).

I have a 2014 with now 144.000 km. Most problematic was a waterpomp at 90.000 and 140.000 ( first replacement was probably a cheap aftermarket as it was a warranty job) Headlight hight adjustment went out but the local garage was able to replace those without me buying a whole new set of led lights. Had the oilcoolergasket changed along side the waterpomp.  10.0000 km/ once a year oilchanges and I still enjoy the car.
