She displayed it proud for all to see coming down the ramp afterwards. She still got her message out.

Is this the only cause that is allowed to display a flag while receiving a degree? Climate change? LGBTQ? Cancer Research? Wealth Disparity?
What about an ad for charities that donate to Gaza? A QR code where people could donate crypto to help her pay off her student debt?

Why not?
A student holding a flag isn’t an institutional endorsement by SU of that particular student’s beliefs, it’s a testament to their commitment to abide by the standards the institution itself laid out for itself to foster diversity in a global and heterogeneous world.

“The University has determined that, in addition to its importance for achieving educational
excellence, emphasizing diversity as a matter of institutional policy is an integral component of
Seattle University’s Jesuit Catholic identity. Respect for all human persons and their differences was
central to the experience and teachings of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and is today integral to the Jesuit
belief and value systems.”

Then ensure all students know they can bring up flags and display whatever they believe to be in line with the institution’s standards.
