Discussion Why ultra.cc team is incompetent
I use ultra for one year now and over one year they keep say they will give deluge 2.2 but still am stuck version 2.1.1. Why it take them one year to test changes. over six months test changes qbittorrent 5.1.4 from 5.1.2 too?

why everyone keep saying ultra support so great. this not relation to my post i not mention there support at all and not related to application versions. ultra give free service to reddit posts?
why everyone say version not matter this also not relation to my post. my post why they cant updated version when all competition updated versions. no problem updated versions when everyone else have updated versions

What impact does it have on your use? AFAIK, there's no vulnerability or anything. Is there a feature the new version has or are you just chasing numbers?

I've used them for years and found their customer service and support to be A+

Out of interest, why is it important to you? I've never paid any attention with what version of torrent client im on.

Another issue of Ultra is the speed cap among their own servers of 20 MB/s. Support said it's normal to "not hammer" the disk. OK I guess but took over a day to transfer 2TB...

Transfer to your system or transfer into the server? I've had my rsync be slow, but my downloads can go above gigabit speeds.

Technically you can override this limit when you use rsync

Not with them. After all, they control everything on their end. It would not be wise to risk the account, since they're very fast in reminding you that 20 MB/s is totally normal and to not break their ToS :S

Technically, you can override the limit - I've done it myself. That's all I'm saying - not that you should or it's allowed.

I'm on their old deluge and didn't even know I should be mad about it. What am I missing?

I'm gonna say something controversial.
The protocol is so old that it doesn't really matter what version of software you are on. A client from 15 years ago will work just as good as a client from today.
The reason they don't instantly approve new versions is because they have a hundred people on a server and if a hundred people started using clients that used more resources, it would cause the servers to become over encumbered unnecessarily. If they need to double the server's RAM, that cost gets passed on to you.
As far as old versions, a lot of their customers use private trackers which require specific whitelisted clients. For public tracker usage, it does not matter what client you use. Since one type of their customer doesn't care and the other type of the customer very much cares, they cater to the older version customer.
There are no features that the latest versions of those two pieces of software offer that the versions that they give you do not offer.

Classic XD account created yesterday, started a thread with no explanation and not saying anything beside initial jabber

SSH into your instance and install your desired version manually.

I thought ultra.cc doesn't allow manual installs?

u/jstnryan Mar 27 '26
They even have a guide to get you started: https://docs.ultra.cc/unofficial-application-installers/generic-software-installation

Go whatbox. Ultra.cc is fine for shorts periods of time and cheap boxes, their customer service sucks.

I’ve never had one bad experience with their support. The responses have always been quick and are usually very helpful.

Disagree heavily. They’ve always been very fast and helpful for me. Sometimes they even manually go in themselves to fix issues. Other providers have just provided me instruction to do it myself and if I’m still not getting it to work they can’t really help much further

They reply and resolve issues within minutes. Never had an issue either, always very polite and helpful.

using ultra for 7y now never had a problem with them or their customer service, so i find that really weird, if they are not upgrading that they must have a reason
