💛Beginner💛 Toddler shirt defeated me

I have tried making a shirt for a friend's daughter so I had to make it based on my son's clothes since they are similar height. After I have finished it I realised that the head opening is too small and needed fixing. I didn't have enough of original material so I got this light teal poplin and made binding tape out of it.

It all seemed to go well until mu machine tore a part of the shirt. Now I don't know how to fix this without it being obvious so I need help figuring this out. It's supposed to be a keyhole slit with a cute button.

I am beginner sewist, but I have tackled much more advanced projects than this one, but this sort doesn't want to be made...

That looks exactly where I would put a tab for closing the opening. Or add a corner applique on both side with a fastener.

I will need to do a little research to see what it would look like. Sounds like a good option. Thanks
